    • People who don't vary their speed!!!

So I passed you in the 110 zone because you were sitting on 105, you catch me in the 100 zone and sit up my ar5e until we hit 110 again, when I leave you behind. We get to a roadworks 80 zone and you catch me again and sit way too close, then overtake me in a dangerous fashion like a retard only to be caught and overtaken again when the roadworks are done and we find 110 again.

Oh, and don't get me started on P platers only being allowed to do 80 in NSW, which idiot thinks it's safe for a P plater to be sitting on 80 in a 110 zone at midnight near Taree. I'm pretty sure it would be safer for him/her and other road users to be doing at least close to the sped limit.

      End rant..........for now

          • Replacing aux battery and I find the aftermarket tray has the powdercoating all cracked and flaking off about 90% and completely rusted. Yet my home made brackets holding the thing which I spray painted with cheap White Knight from Bunnings is still intact and still looking new after about three years. Just going to spray paint the lot.

I have found the "yellow/bronzy" CAD plating that is normally on those things very average nowadays, clearly need to pay the extra for a thick Gal coat instead.

                  • The problem is they make say 100 tray before they send them out to powdercoat.
By that time they are covered in surface rust and are not sandblasted clean to give it the best chance.

                    • Isn't it standard practice to get acid chemical dipped to remove surface rust before the CAD or Galvanise them?

                        • Virgin Maxtrax got molested

I was up at Fraser a couple of weeks ago. First time towing the camper in sand so i brought along 4 Maxtrax. I've had them on many other trips but have never had to use them so they were pristine.

We decided to do the run up to Sandy Cape before heading home. Left the camper behind and did the run up Indian Head, Orchid beach and Nagala rocks through to Sandy with no problems. We spent half and hour swimming and taking in the sights before heading back.

At Nagala on the way back, there was a 120 VX Prado about 10m into the soft sand sitting on its belly spinning it wheels. The trip back down to Hook point is a long drive so we were keen to get going before the tide came in. He didn't have any recovery gear. Not even a shovel.

First thing we did was drop his tyre pressure. He was running 36 psi on his half worn Grand treks. Dropped it down to 18. No good. I reluctantly pulled out the Maxtrax knowing I'd probably get some lugs melted off because he was really stuck. We had already wasted 20 mins and there was no-one coming that could pull him backwards.

Dug under the wheels and then positioned 4 Maxtrax. Told the guy to go easy and not spin the wheels. When the trax didn't pull in he thought more revs would fix it. It wasn't going anywhere. I grab my shovel and told them to dig under the car until they can see the rear diff and belly of the car was clear. Dug the trax in a bit more and this time the car came up onto the maxtrax and got him to reverse off the track so we could get going.

All 4 Virgin maxtrax had melted lugs. Pretty pissed that I didn't even get to use them and now they look trashed. Would it be out of place if the next time I recovered someone that I get them to buy my maxtrax for $250 a pair if they trash them?

                          • Your gear so you should have done the driving.

                            • I've thought about this too Tin. only option really is to say to them before you let them use the maxtrax that it's going to cost $250 to replace them, and ask if they're happy with that. if not, keep driving.

                              • Tin, know how you feel. One end of two of mine are like that. So I position them the same way for guests. Over the years scrapped two snatch straps too. People who think they are some form of combo snatch/tow strap. Cut the last one into nice short pieces.
