  • That's an unusual duration for a school zone. Normally it is just around drop off and pick up time. Is this whole day duration a common thing in the ACT? If not, you can write this in your letter of appeal.

Edit: Were you done during school holidays?

Answer is yes and all well sign posted. Takes account of school activity all day.

You might want to check the road rules as I believe in SA school zones apply 24/7 when children are present regardless of whether they are students or not.

Correct. In SA school zones apply 24/7.

School zones have a speed limit of 25 km/h at any time when a child is in the zone, including outside of school hours, whenever a child is on the road, footpath, median strip, even if they are on a bike.
A child is any person less than 18 years of age and includes a student of any age wearing school uniform.

(Note the grey area in last paragraph) that can be read differently depending on your deciphering of this paragraph.

Bottom line just go 24/7 all kids!

          • There are different types.

            25 when children present
            25 when lights flashing

            • Yes, even though 2 types, it's a very grey area in the law.
The above is quoted from state legislatures, read into it how you want as it reads differently with your quoted signs.

I sympathise with ya. I tried to sell our old BBQ a few weeks ago on Gumtree. OMG what a waste of time. For the $80 I got I should of kept it. The worst people were the "friends" of the family. I'll turn up tomorrow, then the day after, then the day after that. I told them not to bother in the end. Eventually sold it but had to borrow a mates trailer and deliver it (charged him $20 extra for delivery). I just wanted the thing gone. Then there's the other tyre kickers that message you if it's still for sale and then never reply. If you don't want it or can't get it then don't bother.

25km/h is a bit slow - and 24/7 - You'd modify your route just to avoid school zones...
Here in Vic, its 40 and thats painful enough. Our school zones are only during the times posted - 8-930am and 230-4pm (I think). Except public and school holidays.
It's good now that they have started putting in the electric speed signs that change during school hours.

Yes, but you have to do 8km/h to check if a child is present...

                      • In WA, in some rural towns, the schools have different timings from those in Perth metro. But the stupid thing is the illuminated school speed signs are synched all across the state so kids will be coming and going when the signs are not illuminated. People know this and they will speed through the zones when there are no kids but the signs are illuminated. Stupid.

                        • I heard that in SA they are changing all the speed signs to KNOTS due to all the roads being flooded.
