  • It's not illegal to change lanes in a round about is it? Just makes you look like a bit of a c*nt for not letting them in...

    • I'm not sure if it is or isn't legal to change lanes in a round about - but it's common sense not to - you don't change lanes in intersections, and a round about is an intersection.
I think the road rules mention that the lane you enter the round about is the same lane that you should exit it - indicating your intentions as you go along (left indicator on exit) which NOBODY does.

I certainly hope you're joking with that comment...

        • Bit harsh there wooley if you are refering to Trekrider's driving. Going by that vision he's cut straight in front of Trekrider's prado so dont think not letting him in was Trekriders intention it was a case of dabbing the brakes so he didnt damage his bullbar due to some moron who cant drive . As far as I know your not aloud to change across during the intersection but Im probably wrong..........Cheers Steve

          • It is illegal to change lanes in a roundabout like what the driver did to Trek. If you plan to turn right at a roundabout you need to be in the right lane unless you are in a Middle Eastern country or similar.

Below is the Aust road rules enjoy.

It is illegal, it is stupid and if I hadn't hit the brakes hard when I did they would have ended up as a radiator ornament. It's not a case of 'not letting them in'!

              • People who don't know how to use roundabouts certainly tick me off too.

In that video footage, the road markings just before the roundabout indicate that the left lane is for left turn or straight ahead only, the right lane is for straight ahead or right turn only. Trek correctly is in the right lane to proceed straight ahead.

The white car clearly is in the wrong lane to begin with, indicates a right turn from the left lane and proceeds to assume that indicating somehow gives them the right of way.

                • Plus, I was indicating left to show I was exiting - yes, I'm one of the few that does know how to use a roundabout.

Few people indicate on exit of a round about, but it is required by law to indicate as required on entry and indicate on exit. Trekie you are most definitely a "law abiding citizen"...

I knew the rules anyway but there have been several articles in the press and on TV lately explaining how to use roundabouts correctly and they were all saying that most people are confused by roundabouts - I really don't see what is so confusing

Maybe it's because I used to live in Swindon, England which had the nickname of 'The roundabout capital of Britain'

There was one roundabout there that everyone referred to as 'The Magic Roundabout' that was actually six mini roundabouts joined together - you could always spot the non-locals.

Here's a link - note that the inner (sixth) roundabout you actually go anti-clockwise!

                          Turning left
If there are multiple lanes you must approach in the left lane and stay in that lane. You must indicate a left turn on your approach to the roundabout and keep the indicator on until you have left the roundabout.

                          Turning right
If there are multiple lanes you must approach the roundabout in the right lane and stay in that lane. You must indicate a right turn on your approach, and indicate left, if practicable, just before the exit you are turning into, keeping the indicator on until you have left the roundabout.

                          Going straight ahead
If there are multiple lanes, approach the roundabout in the left or right lane. Drive in the same lane through the roundabout. Do not signal on your approach to the roundabout, but if practicable, signal left as you exit.

                            • Hi there Peter. I just wish people that want to indicate when going straight ahead that they would do it as there about to leave it not as entering. I have seen so many near misses where people presume the person is turning. I know once there on the roundabout they have right of way but still a pain in the arse. personally I dont why you even need to indicate as all when going straight ahead if its a basic roundabout as in a cross intersection, should be simple, left lane with indicator on your turning left, right lane right blinker your turning right, if going straight ahead wether double lane or single no blinker required, simple, on roundabouts like the one above where there are multible exits then been in the required lane and use blinker to indicate your exiting !!! If you dont know how to use a roundabout then stay off the roads before they wipe some one out as in Trekriders near miss..... Cheers Steve

What really annoys me is people who indicate right when they are going straight on - so many do it too.
