Bloody hell the extended warranty sounds like it's a PITA. I wonder if everyone who has it has read all the fine print as you have and is aware of how strict the conditions are. Not knowing could turn into an expensive & nasty shock.

Unfortunately it's a Dealer Warranty - I don't consider it was adequately explained at the time. I thought that being a Toyota dealer it was a Toyota warranty - only afterwards I found out it wasn't.Originally posted by mjrandom View PostTrek do you have Toyota Extracare warranty or a dealer based extended warranty?

Unfortunately there are factory warranties and dealer warranties. A lot of the latter limit the number of claims per year, maximum amount per claim and cap how much the warranty will cover each year. All I can suggest is read the fine print and know what is covered. My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

No Jasen, it was three years old when I got it.Originally posted by JasenTrek thats a real pain did you but the car new?
I got an extended warrantee and I'm worried now.
I've just been checking my records and found the following servicing charges:
120 km service $722.54
130 km service $329.03
140 km service $371.53
150 km service $706.22 but did include supplying washer jets at $62.99 and Injector clean at $230, so really $413.23
160 km service $1,211.57 (quoted)
Can't see how any of these meet the fixed price of $298 apart from the 130 km one if you argue it's $298 plus GST.

Just found mine is $2,000 per claim but unlimited number of claims.Originally posted by mjrandom View PostUnfortunately there are factory warranties and dealer warranties. Ok not as bad as it could be. A guy I know had a warranty that limited each claim and the total per annum but also included a clause that meant he had th pay 50% on claims. Turns out he would have been better off without the warranty and getting services and work done elsewhere.Originally posted by Trekrider View PostJust found mine is $2,000 per claim but unlimited number of claims. My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

That's the thing with warranties - often better off not having them. Having said that, my wife's Ford Escape gearbox went after she had it for about a year (Two years old when we got it). Repair cost over $5,500 and we only had to pay $500 so was worth it for that alone.Originally posted by mjrandom View PostOk not as bad as it could be. Continuing the discussion but just about keeping it on topic, another thing that annoys me is that although I'm due for the 160 k service I've actually only done 135 k.Originally posted by Peterpilot View PostIt's a worry, my 160K service is approaching. Wonder how much that will set me back?
I got the Prado with 110 k on the clock and after 6 months had to get the 120 k service even though it had only done 115 k. I'm averaging 5,000 km every six months but have to get the 10 k servicing done as it has to be done every six months.

Especially when you consider it states on the receipt "Carried out onboard injector service to clean excessive carbon build up to restore lost fuel economy and engine performance" and the only effect I noticed was a marked INCREASE in fuel consumption afterwards!Originally posted by fourbyphil View Post$230 fr injector clean?? They tried 10,000mile service intervals with the 200 series, well, 15,000km.Originally posted by JasenDoing that low milage its then called a six monthly service and you are having your 16th six monthly service.
I know what you mean though, I'm still pissed that its 1,000 kms and not 1,000 miles service here like in Europe.
Didn't go so well for them... They bought it back to 10k. I think that was more to do with oil consumption but still.2011 150series GXL
