Rubbish - are they going to go round and cut underwater bits off dive sites now too incase they fall or collapse whilst you're diving?

You can argue they're just transferring the danger elsewhere. Snorkelers swimming over the wrecks now exposed to cut metal and getting washed over the from a swell or boat wash. Reduction in rough weather shelter for boaties who sheltered there in rough weather. Lowered visibility profiles making the wrecks a hazard in rough weather.. etc etc

If people didn't sue at the drop of a hat we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Someone somewhere has yet again decided that we need protecting from ourselves.

There are always gonna be clowns who want to climb these structures and then either fall or land badly, often with dire consequences. Unfortunately in this day of age, there is a need to minimize the risk of said clowns from suing...

            • At some point there has to be an element of personal responsibility. But it's always someone else's fault. So that's a thing that ticks me off. Cretins doing stupid stuff and suing.
I climbed a rusty wreck and hurt myself. Sue the council
Jump of a cliff and hurt myself. Sue the council
Trip over the kerb whilst drunk. Sue the council etc etc

              • Get rid of the rusty wreck. Grab the recently retired HMAS Sydney and drive it onto the beach. Problem solved for another 30 years.

                • Right now I'm at KL airport finally getting out of Bali after repeated cancellations and zero assistance from jetstar. I'm getting married at the start of next week. Jetstar repeatedly stated they'd fly me out, using recovery flights... That's great but there were no recovery flights - when the airline was sending commercial flights to Bali anyway.

Meh, I'm done with them. There's a lot more grief to explain but I'm happy I'm out. Thankfully, travel insurance covers it. Jetstar just cancelled my flight that was scheduled for tomorrow night so the insurance claim is going to go well in my favour :-)

The more annoying issue though is the lack of communication, the 9-5 "dedicated call centre for international passengers stranded in Bali". At least accommodate the 3hr time difference. And have enough staff to answer calls, and don't tell people to use the web app to bloody fix the flight... Erg their pr dept are going to have to handle a disaster.

                      • My sentiments too Dave, there is so much to see and do in this country,
I figure after all thats been in the media over the last year or 2 about volcanic eruptions cancelling flights out of Bali and the hassles it causes you would have contingencies in you plans

Amen to this one, it makes it worse if you drive a company vehicle that is loaded and underpowered (as fleets normally buy efficient vehicles),

                          • People who take "cheap" holidays to third world countries and, when the shite hits the fan, expect the Aussie government (tax payer) to do everything possible to bring them home.

You know Jakarta is closer to Perth than Sydney is to Perth...

Still I don't know why people pay to fly to another country to sit on a beach and get drunk... You can do that here.

Amen to that, never understood the attraction myself. I won't live long enough to see everything I want to in Australia, unless those lotto numbers come up soon and I can retire. Even then there would be Hundreds of other places overseas I would rather visit before bloody Bali!
