  • When you put your shopping in the back of the Prado and find the ham slices mysteriously missing when you get home and pack all the goods away. Only to have an interesting smell reveal the location of said ham on a lengthy road trip!

      • I live and work in a construction camp, we have small rooms and paper thin colourbond walls all around you. Basically 3 people live (separately, with ensuite) in a space a bit larger than a 40ft shipping container.

They you have your stooge neighbour at 4 friggin am get up for breakfast , and as he leaves his room slams the door so the whole block shakes. Not nice especially when you may have consumed a quite a few units of alcohol on your RDO night and are not feeling to well. :x :x AARGH

        • I try to make it so humans are the only living things in the cab on long trips Spurio! Not good to have the mouldy ham rocket off down the road with your pride and joy! I just knew there was a reason I stopped eating McDonalds burgers.... Are they frakking meat anyhow???

Big Fella that story reminds me of something my Girlfriend said along similar lines. She is an exploration geologist and often the camp managers will put all the girls together in a few dongas. So then the girl next door has her boyfriend visit for a few nights and well lets just say that neither my girlfriend or the girl next door get much sleep for those nights. To make it worse the rooms are often mirror images of each other meaning the beds are on either side of a very thin wall. She wants noise canceling headphones for her next trip. Can't do much about the ...... errr... vibrations though..... :?

And as for the burger - doing this at the moment for a uni assignment.
I dried the thing out for a week and then poured pur oil on it to make it as appetizing as possible.

Sorry - a bit off topic now I know!

            • OHHHHHH

A few weeks back at a parking spot near work , I came to my Prado that never been scratched or dented before (almost impossible in Dubai)

A bloody idiot son of a B**** smacked his door against my passenger side door so hard he/she left a deep groove in the paint and left my car with a black finger-size black spot (no dent only a deep scratch)

Toyota Dubai told me that they have to paint the entire lower door panel to make a good a job and with a paint like mine (crystal pearl white :code 070) my bill is expected to be around Dhs 1300 (that's almost AU$ 400)

I didn't do it but man it hurts every time I see it

you know the rest of what I usually say about the S.O.B

              • Something I have been biting my tongue about mentioning on here but I think its about time I said it.

I cant stand people who have purchased a spare wheel cover for their prado but not spent the little bit of extra money to get it color coded to their car. It looks so stupid seeing, light silver, maroon, black, white with a gun metal grey (dark grey) spare wheel cover!

                    • The Power and Water Corporation advising Darwin residents to prepare for a catastrophic week long power outage because of major failures at very old power sub-stations that haven't been properly maintained since Cyclone Tracy.

Even the NT's Counter Disaster Council has met to prepare for the possible likelihood that a significant portion of Darwin might be without power for an extended period of time. Already Darwin's major shopping centre, Casuarina, is running on reduced power and no air-con. They are losing $$$$ in lost trade and lost stock.

Many residents are sleeping without power on a regular basis with frequent blackouts occurring, which makes it quite uncomfortable considering the heat and humidity at the moment (ie 25 degrees Celcius overnight).

Thank God my Suburb hasn't been affected yet. Fortunately, my family and I will be away interstate for the next two weeks... so hopefully the faults might be fixed by then.

                          • Re: Things that tick you off!

P platers who think they are bullet proof !!! .... and not enough people are first aid trained.

It was just after midnight, on Friday night, when Bek and I were heading home from a friends place.

We were travelling along a flat, straight, well lit suburban 'major' road when a guy lept out out in front of the Prado waving a torch around.
It was Halloween .... so I sorta figured it was another drunken yob with nothing better to do .... but I slowed right down and veered to the right to go around him ...

.... and dragged a live powerline down the left side of the car .... before slamming on the anchors to avoid a load of firewood on the road.

Glancing left, we saw what looked like it may have once been a car !
This was a fresh accident scene ... only minutes old.

Apparently this little girly P plater had been barrelling down the road, lost control, slammed into a powerpole - snapping it off at ground level and turning it into a load of firewood, then slammed into a peppermint tree which spun her around and parked her, arse end first, into a concrete wall.

The front end of the car was gone and the roof was crushed down onto the seats - anyone still in there was gonna be very flat.

Anyhow ... the couple of neighbours, who had woken to the bang, were trying to open the doors and see if anyone was in there ... and one guy was on the phone telling the cops that it looked like the driver was dead.

Powerline first ...... parked the car to obstruct the low point ... hazzards on ... and got a couple of locals to grab torches and direct traffic around the debris.
Guy on the phone ..... get the emergency services here ... NOW !!
Fire extinguisher and first aid kit ...... lets have a look at the car.

At the driver's door there was a tiny bit of space to look in ..... and there was a face ..... breathing .... and with huge panic'd eyes.
She was totally trapped and unable to move ..... but, amazingly, didn't appear to have any major 'life threatening' injuries.

Bek went to work on trying to calm her and assess her injuries. I was checking for heat, fuel, fire, major bleeding etc ... and trying to clear enough debris for services to get to the scene.

Three fire units arrived .... and seeing that their patient was already calm and in care ... they proceeded to pass instruction to Bek and left her in place while they cut the car up around her.

They had to take the entire roof off and then cut the front end off to get the dash off the girl's legs ... but two hours later they had her free.
All the while they left Bek talking to the girl, and holding the oxygen mask in place, ..... they just built a shield around her to protect her from all the glass and crap that was flying around.

This was one extremely lucky little lady.
She copped a lot of bruising .. and may have busted a rib or two on impact .... but she was alive.

Her little car's air conditioning compressor was 25 m away, on the other side of the road.

Bek was an absolute SUPER STAR ... and the cops, fireys and ambo's made sure she knew it.

.... but it all could have been avoided with a little less speed !!

                            Cheers
