  • Attracting new members to PP in Alice

Id like to forward an idea about displaying the forum alot more boldly around Alice to attract other town Prado owners. There are a few ways around this that I beleive could work. Firstly a flyer drop on vehicles could be a way or even having larger tranfers attactched to our Prados. With the PP get together just around the corner, I would consider this an appropriate time to do so. Id be happy to cover my ride in large format signage to promote our lifestyle. Our Prado makes many trips to town ie. shopping, work and sight seeing etc. Whats your thought on this?

I thought about the leaflet drop but then it was pointed out to me that this may in fact drive people away rather than attract them. People react badly to leaflet drops on cars in shopping centres so it seems.

I did think of putting an advert in to the Advocate but the cost of this might be prohibitive.

How about the large bold lettering on our Prados? Thinking of rear window and rear quater windows?

Not sure how good that we be but always worth a shot. Another way is to make up some A4 signs to place on the noticeboards at the shopping centres around town.

Well I have been thinking a bit about this lately, actually long before this thread was raised.

So I have sent a notice in to 7 Central's Community Noticeboard to see if they will put it on the air. Not sure that they will cause I don't know if we qualify as a Not For Profit organisation. I am guessing that we do cause I am pretty sure nobody is making money out of being a member of the forum.

I also made up some Pradopoint business cards today to give to people who I think might be interested in us when I am walking around town. There were heaps of Prados from interstate down town today all towing camper trailers or caravans. If I had had the cards ready I could have easily given them all out.

If anyone wants to use the same format for the hand out card then the download is here:

          http://www.mediafire.com/?c90mz4zab9d

It is made for the Avery business cards C32097

Perhaps a media release with some photos to the Alice Springs Newspapers and the N.T News. Mention how many members PP has and also the international atttention the GTG has attracted with Fly N Drive planning to turn up from the States - that in itself is a great story that I reckon Aussie and US 4 w d magazines would lap up.

In the time between now and the commencement date of the GTG look for any interesting angle and put out a press / media release about each particular angle e.g. one a month for awhile then as the event draws closer once a fortnight.

So for example next month the press release would be announcing the get together. Then the following month make an anouncement that numbers are filling fast, the month after announce any sponsorship deals, the month after announce something else. ALWAYS include photos with any press/media release and a contact name of one of the organiser.

              I like your thinking.

I was talking more along the lines of just attracting people to the forum though as I have the GTG pretty much covered in that regard. & Central Billboard is a free service provided by 7 central so I thought I would give them a go seeing as they have a huge satelite foot print. Imparja used to do the same but since aligning themselves with Channel 9 they have ceased their community noticeboard.

Mav and others, I was in alice springs from 9th to 12th july at macdonnell range holiday park. Unfortunately i don't have a pradopoint sticker on my car (pure apathy I'm afraid...) , and I thought Mav was in adelaide at the time (where i normally live and I am at the moment), otherwise I would have PM'ed him for a catchup...

My trip (two Prados's, mine and a friends, who has no idea what a forum is..) , 4 adults 5 kids between us was from 28 June to 13 July this year, and we went:

                      Adel- Woomera (1 night)
                      Woomera- Coward Springs (1 Night)
Coward Springs - Coober Pedy (1 night)
Coober Pedy - Yulara (4 nights)
Yulara - Kings Creek Station (2 nights)
Kings creek Station - Seprentine Chalet (2 nights)
Sepentine Chalet - Alice (3 nights)
                      Alice - Coober Pedy ( 1 night)
Coober pedy - Adelaide... (unfortunately maybe forever)

I have to recommend Serpentine Chalet as a campground, as they have a 4wd only section (we got our cavalier trailers into it relatively easily), which was fabbo for those with a second 12v battery and lighting, as opposed to redbanks or ormiston or others which were more formal... But had better facilities...

I would have loved to catch up with the PP'ers in AS, which was not to be........however I now know about Uluru, kataTjuta, Kings Canyon, Meerenie loop, Palm valley, campgrounds at AS, KC Station, Serpentine Chalet, Coward springs among others so if anybody wants my opinion just ask... Also been to redbanks, Glen Helen, Standley Chasm, Ormiston Gorge and Gosse Bluff plus gemtree...Not to mention Hermmansburg.......)

The weather was nothing short of outstanding!!!!!!!!! Shorts/Tshirt from8am to 6pm..and just add a bit from there. light sweater at 6pm, bigger jacket by 10pm... (well at 6am add thermals, but by 9am you are cooking...)

I hope the 2009 Pradopoint GTG has the same weather luck as we had...I won't be there Unforrtunately, but you have God's own country there and I couldn't think of a better spot for a GTG...

Anyway just my thoughts.. Anybody wants my opinions just ask via PM or reply here...

Well I'll be. They reckon that they get aired 26 times during the week so I will have to keep an eye out for it.

Even better is that they have a huge satelite footprint and cover a lot of regional Qld as well as regional SA and WA and NSW.

Thanks for the heads up Fergs.

Hows the idea about getting some large formated transfers made up or do you think this is a waste of $$. Anyhow ill keep an eye out for the add too, good spotting Fergs . Mav I guess the cards are a step in the right direction although sounds to be as effective as flyers unless you actully speak to the owners. Doing something is always better then doing nothing at all.

Well since making them I have not seen a Prado, aint that always the way? Yesterday I could have given about twenty of them out but today there was nobody around in town when I was there and that is saying something for this town were every second car is a Prado.

To be honest I don't think the large format signs will do much at all and cost big dollars to get done.

However it is always worth trying the free things first like pinning up flyers on the free noticeboards around town. There are the ones in Alice Plaza and at the mini marts around town. Even Gloria Jeans has one inside the cafe.
