    U.S.E.R.N.A.M.E.S

    G'day all,

    I was just wondering if anyone else has noted that we seem to have an inappropriate username being approved by the site administrator Aaron. Now I'm not having a go at the person who has registered with this fine and money consuming group, I'm just peeved off that we have the sense to remove inappropriate words from posts here, but why not the username? Does the site admin just hit the approval button or what? Does he look at the name? C'mon is this site moving away from a G rating.

    To me it's not a really bad word or anything, I use worse! But as I said it's just inappropriate here on this forum as a username.

    Anyway I've had my say now.

      i agree big fella, we all let the ocassional word slip, but not as a username, ive got a potty mouth, but there is a right and a wrong place to use it, or just censor it with a few characters, we will get the drift. my 2 cents samo
      had an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.

        I agree too, it's a little unnecessary. It's the lack of this sort of thing that makes this forum so appealing to me.

            Yeah, I agree; not good form. Its easy to slip up and write something a bit sus ... and if we were to do that, we appreciate Mods that can edit our questionable comments. An offensive username is rather more "in your face" and much more permanent ... not something for posterity. I would expect though, that the new member is a plumber or some similar occupation and simply having a go at some humour with no offense intended. Hopefully he/she will read our comments and change the moniker.

                Can't say I noticed until this thread drew my attention to it...bit like the Bill Henson furore....wouldn't have seen anything offensive until it all hit the fan.

                      Yeah a tough issue this one. Don't be too quick to blast the site admins too much. Un moderated forums are really total chaos filled with elite dimwits who have no other purpose but to belittle others for the sake of their own ego. As far as forums go, this one is really very well run.

                      Bad language in usernames isn't a good idea in my opinion either. Simply because it's always in your face. Dirty language has its place, for sure. But there is a limit. Sometimes you can use "dirtier" wording in your posts to prove a point and it works. In other instances though... it's just bad language. This can be hard to judge sometimes.

                      I have found that many forums simply seem to have a blacklisted set of words that cannot appear in usernames or in posts. Flipside of that is that people begin to complain that they are treated like children and cannot use the language they want. It's a fine balance to keep everyone happy.

                        The best thing is to PM a mod.

                        Though we have no control over adding or deletion of users, there is only one person at this point that can do that.
                        So it will probably take time for anything to be actioned in regards to it.
