  • Deluxe Camper Trailers

I've been looking for a camper trailer to accomodate 6 people (2 adults and 4 kids). While the Trak Shak is the obvious choice, they are now around $30K+ and are made in China. Heck, they were cheaper when they were made in Australia!

Whilst researching alternatives to Trak Shak, I found the Deluxe Camper Trailer:

    http://www.deluxecamper.com.au/

All Australian made in SA and developed for the hire market. The Deluxe Double Off Road camper trailer has very similar features and operation to the Trak Shak From $18,799 inc GST on the road.

Does anyone have one? Has anyone hired one? Has anyone considered buying one? What are they like?

    Cheers,
    Peter

These guys are worth a look too. I saw them at our local show. I cannot justify big $ for a camper we use less than 1 month a year so I am looking at getting an ABL pack to fit to my off road trailer. About $7k all up with bits and pieces. Just need to alter the tail gate to side swing and make up a new 'kitchen' and build a hinged top for the canopy over the pack.

These campers are about the only ones I have seen that can give me similar area under tarp to my tent + fly set up for a reasonable cost.

ABL are also the only ones I have spoken with who are not worried about a fly being pulled over the top. I intend to hire the camper for a weekend and set it up at home and play with the configuration. Only concern I have is whether I crack the magic 750kg point and need to fit brakes.

Hutch said he hired an ABL camper for his trip to Fraser recently. Any problems/comments Hutch?

      Thanks mjrandom,

I wanted 6 berths without the need for add-ons and extra rooms. They all take extra time to set up with poles and ropes etc. If I was going to go that way, I may as well pitch a tent next to the camper to accomodate everyone.

Also, Deluxe Campers can do just the top for their Double for $11,565 which you would then fit to your own trailer, which is fine if you happen to already have a trailer: http://www.deluxecamper.com.au/double_off_sale.html

      Cheers,
      Peter

        They look OK,
With any of those soft floor campers, the annex is always the most time consuming part of the setup.
We have a Challenge, also SA made. (2 adults 2 kids)
For over nighters we dont both with the annex.
We have extra floor length (made for us with that option) which is good for 2 on the camp beds still with room in the tent. We have the raised queen size inner spring mattress for us adults.
For longer stays or extra people in comfort we then put up the annex.

But with that set up that you posted it would give you 4 on the raised beds and still room on the floor for a camp bed or 2, and then the little humpy underneath. That shouldnt take to long to set up.

Just make sure its what you want.

Matt White was selling on recently, dont know if it has sold tho.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

No issues at all, after hiring one i am not sure that i woul d buy one, why well for 5 days i paid 260 bucks used it and then took it back, i even had to pack it up wet as it rained that morning and i took it back and they took care of the rest. if you did that a few times a year say maybe $1000 tops it would take a few years to pay off the the outlay price and every time you hire one it is pretty new. The one i had was three months old.

Thanks lofty, problem is that they don't go out of their way to advertise and they don't go to camping & 4WD shows. So if you want to see one you need to go to their office in SA or Vic. :?
