Not too many people with Vista it seems. What does that tell you? I've just bought it with my recent PC rebuild. Damn lucky I set up a dual boot with Win XP I can tell you. 1/2 my software refuses to run under Vista! Now I just have to replace the the nice rolling hills background with something a little better 8). Maybe we need a free for all pics thread where we can post up pics for all members to use. I errrr... lack a few nice action shots of my own.....

                  Hey Clifton,

Mmmmmm Double and Haycock Island and Reef

Let me guess what suburb you are in .....

Is pelican park still there or has it been sold off to fill the councils bank account ?

I spent a few years down on O'shea then moved up in the world to Vasey Esp. That was the early 90s, we were paying $130 a week which was pretty pricey back then. Its probably $500+ a week now !!

I don't know if it is still there but about 30 metres off from O'shea you could see all the old foundations of the old fishermans shacks, as the story goes they apparently didn't make it through a couple of storm surges.

While I was at O'Sheas we had a couple of really good storms which washed a couple of metres off the beach and a few cows got washed down the rivers onto the beach, it was a classic, the cattleman rounding up pissed off cows in all the storm debri.

A few years earlier either 88 or 89 Old Cranky Blue Eye opened Cement cove, cairns started to loose that remote outpost town feeling not long after.
"Ooops I just deleted the internet, lucky I was able to recover 99.7% of it out of the bin"

                      Hi Spurio,
                      You are spot on,
There remains only three original old shacks/ weekenders two of which have been done up and look OK, the beach has a rock wall from Deep Creek Kewarra Beach to St Crispin Street Clifton Beach, to prevent Coral Sea inundation to the homes along the beach front, however a few of us locals are a bit sceptical as most of the inundation I have seen has come off the hills behind us during cyclones. In the the last 10 years we have had a gradual erosion of the beach and lost many trees. The rates along the Esplanade are comparable and sometimes more than the north shore in Sydney.

Cement Cove is getting bigger with new developments all the time, one positive is that we have great restaurants available around the beaches now.

The caravan parks have been sold off, as well as the vacant land behind the Billabong I could write a thesis on the bloody unattractive architecturally inappropriate unit developments that has stuffed the Clifton Beach entrance off the Cook Highway and would you believe it, it is a supposed LOCAL that is building most of them wait for it! about 800units in all I am told, (but didn't you know it's good for employment) Farrrrrr# sorry but the sell of the parks and bushland and replacing with concrete jungles is a big issue with me, and I am not a greenie.

The concrete is definately overtaking Cairns, some of it I feel is necessary and has made for great facilities in the Cairns Business District and many of the beaches, I guess you could explain FNQ in one word it is "Exploding" with population growth.

It is still a great place to live despite the odd cylone to keep us on our toes.

Hi Joey cause it is, I was having a moment, I think when I named my membership.
I am not suprised, but I have never seen a single Pradopoint rig on the road around here and I do get around a bit.
I would love to catch up but I have been having medical problems and a recent Op which has made life a bit difficult for a few weeks.
