Just reading other posts about theives, and considering the amount of money we invest in our accessories, was wondering what measures people have put in place to stop them going wandering.

Spot lights are often going walkies, and I have heard of people putting a weld tack onto the threads to keep them safe or drilling a small hole through the thread and placing a small padlock.
I've also seen the hole in the thread and padlock used to secure spare tyres on the back of patrols.

So any more ideas on how to keep our toys safe.

Have everything insured.

I have had heaps of stuff flogged over the years, I think the best logic is to fit everything as best you can without going over board or worrying to much about it. In the end if the pricks can't get the bit off they are after they often will damage something else because they are annoyed.

In the thredbo car park: my driving light bolts were tack welded and they could not get them off, so they decided to smash the driving lights, rip out all the wiring loom, in the process cracked the front grill and kicked in the std headlights.

On another occasion I was parked near Darling Harbour and I had those tri-cambered bolts securing an alloy roofrack, after the pricks damaged all the bolts and footings they decided to stab the roof in multiple places with a screw driver. The buggers had also stood on the bonnet when they were trying to get the rack off.

Guess what, on all of these occasions no body heard anything.

Hence my theory is to have it insured and let them take what they want with minimum damage. I'd rather replace some lights or roof rack rather than fixing panels, wiring looms etc. Oh and I am very careful where I park.

Blkmav90 your last point about being careful where you park goes a long long way in my opinion. We often go to a cinema near where we live and at one time the car park was one of the top spots in Perth for car theft. So I always park smack bang under the large security lights they've now installed there. Crims like the dark..... just like vampires. Also I try and park where the mobs have parked. Easier to park off in the dim corner, but much safer to park where people are going to be coming and going often. If the Lightforce's get taxed then so be it. I've kind of accepted I can't do much about them. I've often thought about getting a sticker that says something like "This vehicle is monitored by remote tracking and sensing devices. The vehicle can and will be found anywhere on Earth".

The bastards would probably rip off the sticker too! :|
