This is one for you diagnostic sleuths out there.
Hopped into the 9 month old D4D, turned on the aircon and it smelt like rotten wet towels, really pungent. Bugger.
I had mentioned to the bride to always turn the aircon off by using the A/C button, NOT the fan "off" button, so that it reduced the risk of bacteria on the evaporator. I knew that she didn't do this religously and so I said words to the effect of - "this is what happens...blah blah blah. :x
It ocurred a few times on my previous 90 series, but only after about 8 years of use. So this was a real dissappointment.
Thought I'd have a go at disinfecting it. Looked up the net and PP, no doubt it is bacteria in the evaporator. Pulled apart the lower dash, sprayed Glen 20 into the intake. Found the filter, it didn't smell, but while doing the job , got a strong whiff every now and then. On reinstalling the glove box, I attached the little chord that lowers it slowly (which had never been connected before). Still feeling sh*tted off, and thought I'll go back to the dealer and have a go at them.
In the home aircon they steam clean it every year to rid it of these bugs.
Now late at night, kick off the scuffs and head to bed. Hang on, there's that smell, and I'm not near the car! Where's it coming from. Look down at the addidas scuffs - no surely not! Picked them up, took a deep whiff and then dry reached. WTF
Took another whiff of the upper sole,(a black and clear plastic) - nothing. Undid the velcro closed upper, and smelt the underside of the upper (which is black fabric) and again dry reached. Now it comes together....when I turned on the aircon, I had the face and foot vents open. The foot vents were blowing over the scuffs and the airflow rebounds off the floor and comes straight up into my face, hence only could smell it when the aircon was on. I loved those black and white addidas scuffs, but lately they had gotten wet a few times when rain blew in under the patio. ops: ops:
I hope I don't have to sleep on the stretcher for too long!
