Dobbo, me thinks you need to get a lot more friendlier with your neighbour and keep us posted on the happenings of the 4wd world.

The new package is a very appealing option for would be prado buyers. Very tempting indeed...
SLAP!!

The only disadvantage is the lack of a factory long range tank
I see the IRS as a bit of a disadvantage, It's also the reason the ground clearence numbers look good (rear diff tucked up high, unlike Prado/lc200 which is measued from the lowest part of the rear diff).
Having driven one off road(Current model DiD), with traction control... yes you can go as far as standard Crusiers and Patrols even a little further if they get cross axled ... But FARK they scrape A LOT!!! I though I was going to tear the guts out of it.
Nothing more than a touring vehicle... it's a vehicle that fills the gap between soft roader and out right 4wd/ all rounder.
I'm not brand loyal (I've actually owned a Mitsi) but the Pajero lost cred with me when the rigid axle/seperate chassis went out the door.
Will probably appeal to the masses...

It's the direction things seem to be going in at the moment. Less 4X4 and more comfortable tourer. That's where the money seems to be. For serious 4X4 people in the future it's looking like an extensive visit to the mod shop before any new generation wagons can really be trusted for more remote trips. It's interesting, the way the markets gradually change. With the sheer volume of soft roaders out there right now, you'd think that the established brand-name 4X4's could be left for the people who want 4X4 capability for their camping holidays. Instead, there seems to be another market that holds sway. Just as MickL says, a cross between the soft roader and genuine 4X4. Those people who need a little 4X4 capability to get to various tourist spots but nothing too taxing. More comfort options, less offroad ability. That's where the Prado's and Mitsu's seem to be going. Jeep has offered an offroad optioning system for years and it's a wonder that Toyota and Mitsu don't do the same thing. Extra options could only mean extra sales.
I suppose were all supposed to go out and buy 70 series wagons.

I really don't know how long these electronic bits and pieces will last...
When I did my diff before Xmas the car in front of me was a SWB current model Paj with traction control. Jeff (driver) said to me afterwards while my car was being seen to that he only made it up the hill because of the traction control. BUT... he added... 'Thankfully the hill wasn't any longer as the TC warning lights were flashing madly on the dashboard'
So, I guess my point is... all these modern features seem great in theory but as people have mentioned if you need to rely on them for some real 4WDing then I'd be a bit worried. (by real I don't mean breaking a car... but having to get somewhere/past some obstacle.)

Jeff could have stopped when he got the TC "flatline death tone", waited 2 or 3 seconds and then kept going
We figured that would be the case... but he didn't really want to stop half way and find out The TC sure made the hill look like childs play though

Was speaking to my neighbour Dean, who is the editor of the magazine. I put him onto the website for the Pradopoint Get Together last weekend and they are going to run a short blurb in the What's On segment of next issue.
I have asked Mav to give him a call and discuss getting some more coverage of the event and possibly some sponsorship.
Dean would also be keen to do a readers contribution on the trip once the dust settles.
