Can anyone give me some advice on which one is better, seems that you have more control with the E-Z deflaters but the idea of the valve being removed from the housing worries me a bit. Any advice would be great Cheers Digger :?:

Re: Staun tyre deflators Vs E-Z tyre deflators
I've had my Stauns for over 10 years and they are in my opinion, the best option by far. I have 2 sets, for different pressures. Once set up correctly, they are so simple. Srew on all 4, wait a couple of minutes and put caps back on. I have tried the E Z deflator, and it was fast, but required constant monitoring and standing over each tyre as you lowered the pressure, also, not keen on playing with valves particularly in a sandy enviorment. Just my personal experience.Rob

Re: Staun tyre deflators Vs E-Z tyre deflators
I have had stauns for a while and loved them (and still do), but have just bought an EZ and am sold on it. The stauns are great if you only ever deflate to one pressure (or 2 if you have 2 sets), but if you need to readjust then you need to find a stick on the side of the track.
Say you have stauns set to 18 for sand, then to deflate for rocks, you may prefer say 25 (these are just rough numbers I picked), you either need another set or a stick.
If you have them at 18 and then hit the really soft stuff (or get bogged!) and need to go to 14 (I do with the BFGs), then you need a stick.
I just think the flexibility outweighs the bit of extra time and having to monitor each one. They are fast to deflate and since the valve is always housed inside the barrel, I don't see how the sand can be a risk. I'll still use the stauns if I'm banging down to 18, but if I only had one choice - I'd pick the EZ.
again, my experience
PS digger - are you planning on joining us on Saturday?

Re: Staun tyre deflators Vs E-Z tyre deflators
I haven't read it yet, but I did find an interesting review site for 10 tyre deflation systems including both of these:

Re: Staun tyre deflators Vs E-Z tyre deflators
I've got a set of Stauns ..... two are set at 18 psi and two are set at 26 psi.
I love them for the ability to set and forget.
I've also have the ARB EZ deflator and love it for its ability to be very accurate with pressures.
I've had the BFG's down as low as 8 psi, in some pea soup mud, and find I can keep dropping the pressure by 2 psi ... until I can drive out (or there's no air left).
Cheers

Digger
I looked at the Stauns and the EZ deflator also. I chose the EZ deflator for the same reason as Fishnut - Flexibility. I was also concerned about damaging valve cores, so I keep 1/2 a dozen spares in my compressor box - the dude at the tyre shop just gave them to me FOC (he's going to get a sale for 5 x Cooper ST's when the Grandcraps wear out!). As far as getting sand in the valve core, dont worry about it as the whole valve is enclosed in the EZ deflator while being deflated. Theres no way sand or dirt will ever get in while deflating unless its already on the EZ deflator, in which case you just give the EZ deflator a quick squirt with your compressor hose to clean out the crap before attaching it to the valve.

Re: Staun tyre deflators Vs E-Z tyre deflators
Has anyone else read Derek' from ABR's deflator test?
http://www.parksoffroad.com/prodreview/ ... ormain.htm
Interesting reading, I take it that the 'Currie EZ Deflator' appears to be the predecessor to the ARB EZ Deflator.
....As an old bloke......I still like the simplicity of my Stauns. as I'm only doing beach and national park driving these days........But horses for courses. If your needing multiple tyre pressures for serious off roading I can see the need for the ARB EZ Deflator.Rob

Re: Staun tyre deflators Vs E-Z tyre deflators
Stauns sell for between $69 & $111 plus postage on ebay. You can have mine for $50- if you want them. Only ever used about 3 times. Nothing wrong with them, I guess I'm just more hands on. I take out the valve with a tyre remover dust cap glued on to an old pencil (just makes it easier to handle on an extension piece). Does the trick just fine & cost me less than a dollar. I always have a few spare valves in the same packet just in case I drop one but I never have. By counting slowly, I can pretty much guess the tyre pressure so I know when to stop & can choose any different pressure I want depending on the circumstances. I am always aired down quicker than those with Staun's but then you still have to wait till everyone else is done so speed isn't really the issue.White '04 GXL Auto with
