      Re: Global Economic Crisis

Taken from an e-newsletter i receive from a finance contact.

      "The Hot Dog Parable

There once was a man who lived by the side of the road and sold hot dogs. In fact, he sold very good hot dogs. He put up highway signs telling people how good his hot dogs tasted. He stood by the side of the road and called out, “Buy a hot dog, mister?”

And people bought his hot dogs. They bought so many hot dogs the man increased his meat and bun orders. He bought a bigger stove so he could meet his customers’ demands. Then he set up more hot dog stands to cope with the demand. Business was very good. And finally, he brought his son home from college to help out in the family business.

      But something happened.

His son said, “Father, do you not watch television, or read the newspapers? Do you not know we are heading for recession? The European situation is unstable, America’s bung, and our domestic economy’s getting worse.”

And the father thought, “My son is smart. He’s been to college. He knows what he’s talking about.”

So the man cut down his meat and bun orders, eventually took down his highway signs, and no longer stood by the side of the road to sell his hot dogs. He sacked the staff at his other stands and closed them down.

His sales fell fast overnight. “You were right, son,” said the father. “We certainly are in a serious recession.”

Moral of the story? Get up tomorrow, think positive, BE positive, work smart, hang out with positive hard working people and avoid those who see only gloom – it rubs off, you know? And avoid newspapers – a daily collection of the worst stories from around the world. Who’d want to fill their thinking with that!?"

          Re: Global Economic Crisis

Well, my employer has been forced with a lot of job losses in last 6 months, idled a fair swag of our plant to reduce production across our WA Mines and Processing plants to match the markets, lots of restructuring with many people picking up dual roles, and today our 1st half profit report to the ASX was a $55m loss for first 6 months of the year.
This was on same day as another 27 positions made redundant at HQ, on top of another 5 last week in our Exploration lab.

If we keep achieving what we have for the next 6 months, we should be on track for a $100m loss.......

Somethings gonna change real soon, unless the $Oz drops by about 20 cents in a hurry..........
          Cheers

It appears the Global Economic Crisis hasn't hurt ARB too much:

            "ARB Corporation (ARP)
ARB Corporation reported NPAT up 14.7% to $22.54m for the year ended 30 June 2009. Revenues from ordinary activities were $192.37m, up 10.3% from last year. Diluted EPS was 33.86 cents compared to 29.52 cents last year. Net operating cash flow was $28.20m compared to $19.04m last year. The final dividend declared was 6.5 cents, taking the full year dividend to 16.5 cents compared with 15 cents last year. ARP increased 25 cents (6.11%) to $4.34. "

                Re: Global Economic Crisis

Here in Karratha all the camps are serviced (including catering) by one of three companies

                ISS
                Sodexo
                Topic Catering

Getting in touch with any of them should open a few doors.

                Cheers,

                            Re: Global Economic Crisis

there still seems to be plenty of work on offer in WA thanks to the resources companies expanding. We are in Karratha and there have been very few people that we know that are effected by the "economic crises". And anybody that was out of work, walked straight into something else.

Whilst i am happy with my current employer, i have my resume with a recruitment company and I get them forwrding jobs to me at least weekly, so from what i see of the job market in WA, its a good bet.

But if people are thinking about heading west, go straight past Perth and head North. Temperature prediction for today is low of 16, high of 30 and a light on shore breeze. PERFECT!
