open itunes and go to Edit --> Preferences --> Devices there should be a auto sync button make sure its not checked we have 2 iphones and ipod touch and an ipod clasic and have no issues you then just drag the songs you want onto your ipod.

ntp, that is awesome. wish they would do it with mine. it's one of the 4th generation and bearly keeps charge for a day and that's when it's not in use.

Make sure you uncheck the box that says sync music when you plug it in.

I didnt do this and my 4yo was bopping away to "fire water burn"
