  • Do you enjoy eating out?

Just curious how many on here enjoy going out for dinner or lunch with their families? Those of us with yound kids are probably limited in choice to kids venues which there is really only one of in Alice so we end up there most of the time. I don't count Maccas and KFC as eating out.

We regularly find ourselves in unfamilar towns whilst travelling and often we arrive in the late afternoon, which gives us little time to find a decent place to eat but some places we have been to enough times to have found reasonable restaurants.

So what is the pick of the restaurants in your town, you know the place the locals would eat at, good food, clean and not too expensive?

Aslo for the NSW folk I discovered the NSW Government name and shame website for food vendors yesterday and I wish I had found it earlier as one of the places that we used to eat at was listed on it for cockroach infestation.

If you are interested the link is http://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/penalty-notices/

Here in the Barossa valley we are spoilt, with not only having some of the best wine in the world on our doorstep, but also a great selection of resteraunts and pubs. Within Angaston alone there is 2 great hotels serving pub style meals at reasonable prices but 3 other resteraunts all on the main street within walking distance of each other. A short drive of 3-4km will take you to around about 4 other restaraunts. So if your in the Barossa Valley the wine and food are all well covered.

That sounds like a top place Samo, we will have to give that a shot when we are down there next time.

Spent a bit of time in the Barossa region and tried a few of the restaurants there, never disappointed in the wine tastings either. Some of our fav wineries are there, we really like the small boutique wineries that have some amazing wine you just cannot buy down at the local liquor land.

Would definately agree with you there Mav. The small wineries are great to visit and from time to time we have gone into the cellar door only to find we are the only ones there. The staff are allways willing to spend more time with you and really know their product. If your in the Valley spend some time during the day to sellect some great wine and then take it with you when you go out for tea that night. Becareful not to drink too much though

An understatement if ever I've heard one. The Barossa is one of my favourite places.
About 10 years time (fingers crossed) and I can change my username to "Valley AJ" :P

Angaston or Tanunda is where I'll be settling down. A mate of mine lives in Angaston.
All he does is rave about it, and having seen it myself, I agree whole heartedly. Gods country.

              Cheers,

Couple than spring to mind for me are "Pauls "Seafood Restaurant" on The Parade, Norwood. Best seafood in Adelaide. Reasonable prices. My pick is the crumbed seafood platter. We are regulars here

"The Mallee Fowl" located along the Berri bypass road just out side Berri in the Riverland. Bit more expensive but fantastic food and great atmosphere in "The Shed" along with some great relics of the past and Australiana to look at. Has won a few awards.

Honarable mentions to the Berri Golf Club, Loxton Hotel, Slug and Lettuce pub in Parafield Gardens, Feathers hotel in Burnside, Eyre hotel in Whyalla... all have good, affordable meals in their bistros...

                    Mav,

When you make it up here I have some places you should try. Red Brick Station (brew pub), Craby Dicks (seafood), Wharf Rat (Brew pub), Shela's Back Room (Cigar Bar), James Joyce (Irish Pub), Vicarro's (Italian pastry), Red Hot & Blue (Bar B-Q), and others.

                    Anywhere but Outback Steakhouse.

I can't wait to get some tucker and a stubby at Overlanders.

                    See you in July.

Re: Do you enjoy eating out?

Well I once got hellishly sick after eating in a Han's Cafe in Leederville, Perth. We found out much later on that the place had been having continual problems with the health department. Rats, vermin, food unfit for consumption, unclean premises, the whole list. Geez no wonder I was crook. Now I just don't feel all too comfortable at Han's Cafe's......... :?

We have a lot of Italian restaurants near to us which we've eaten at. Not bad but nothing to write home about. We used to really enjoy going to the Lone Star steakhouses here in Perth but they closed up a few years ago. Rumour has it there was a massive lawsuit filed against the company. Could be an interesting story. Haven't really found a good replacement for the Lone Star yet.

The best seafood restaurant we've found in Perth is also in Leederville, Perth just up the road from the embattled Han's Cafe. Kailis's Seafood restaurant. It's not the biggest so you'd need to book or go midweek on a much quieter night. It is also a fish market so the seafood there is ultra fresh. I'd recommend it to anyone.

It's also nice to find a good pub with a bit of atmosphere and kick back in the Bistro with mates. Usually doesn't hit the wallet too badly.

Maybe twice a year would we go to a swishy joint for a meal. You can do really well without paying too much.

Well I will tonight. A couple of mates and I (along with our partners/wives) will finally get to go out together for all expenses paid dinner & night out courtesy of our big Melbourne Cup trifecta win last year. It should be a very good night indeed.... always more enjoyable when you don't have to worry about costs! 8)
