We carry fluoro lights for camping on our trips and I have been unhappy for sometime with the brightness. So decided to build a HID camp light.
Bought the following:
- 1 x Heavy Duty work light (Super Cheap Auto)
- 1 x Tent pole with easy twist i.e cam action (Max length 2m)
- 1 x HID Ballast and 50w bulb
Current draw is around 5amp and total cost $120. Yet to make a bracket for the Rhino roofrack to hold the tent pole in place.

Test run with my golf buggy battery -15ah

That’s bright…..

You can undo the wire by removing the grommet (yellow) with say a “watch makers” screwdriver. Then you don’t have to cut the wires to get the adaptor through.

Had to drill a hole to get the wires out and the back of the bulb was touching the inside. All sealed with “Skilaflex” and waterproofed.
