    Re: Victorian bush fires

From all the way up here in PNG i am only getting the news via internet. So its harder to get a grasp on how bad it really is..... the pic is mind blowing, and certainly shows how savage this night mare must be.

That is a truly scary sight.....

      Re: Victorian bush fires

We're ok here although we packed a few things and kept the family elsewhere just in case. We live on a property of 19 acres, about half bush on the edge of the Dandenongs and one fire was about 4km away. If the wind changed it would take a few minutes so we took precautions just in case. We do have friends in Yarra Glen and Kinglake, one family we can't contact due to lines/towers being out.

We've lost some nice areas around Healesville, Yarra Glen etc we visit quite a bit too.

I seriously doubt double brick etc would do much in these circumstances, perhaps give a little more time but the house would still go up. Unfortunately most of the people who died seem to have been in their vehicles trying to escape. I guess the fire just came in seconds and their escape was a little late.

We're still OK at the moment, but keeping a close eye on things. Ready to leave as soon as the situation changes and it seems our area might be in danger.

Thinking of all you guys and girls in the danger areas.

As said b4, dont wait till the last minute to go, thats how most lives are lost in a bushfire.

Best wishes to all and their families.

Just heard deaths up to 49, truely a terrible event. Let's hope it dosen't get any worse and rival Ash Wednesdays terrible loss of life.

Also heard they caught a guy lighting fires... bastard  . I'd lynch him up the nearest tree.

As has been said by all thus far, stay safe and get out ASAP if it turns pear shaped. Don't leave it to the last second.
Hopefully the cool change that SA is experiencing now is on top of Vic in no time to assist all the CFA/MFS etc in their efforts.

Some good news just in from Narby via the Pajero club, the pub survived!

Jim Kennedy is OK and the Black Spur Inn still stands. The fires went around them by some distance. How fortunate. Jim's able to run the generator and has opened his premises to feed and accommodate locals in need.

These fires are truely disastorous, our thoughts go out to all that have lost love ones. Makes our minor problems in life seem insignificant and at the other end of the country it is flooding.
What a country we live in.
People lighting these fires should be jailed for life!! actully i have other veiws but that might start a war of threads if i say what i really think.

I truly hope that all our members and the folks living in the regions affected by the fires are able to get out and stay safe. Unfortunately I know that there have been many deaths already and there will be more to come. Likewise in our northern climes with the devastating floods, take care if your in the affected regions. Truly a terrible day for all Australia.

                            Re: Victorian bush fires

I've never seen anything like this in Australia before. All those people, lucky to escape with their lives. And a growing number who didn't. I sat and watched the news reports today in utter disbelief. Whole towns ceased to exist today. I saw a firefighter who didn't know if his wife and children were still alive. It's like a warzone over there. I really hope that the people affected can rebuild their lives after this. If that happened to me I'd be gutted.

I haven't ever seen fires like that. But I've seen ones big enough. Fire becomes an altogether more hellish beast when it gets to a size like that. Heat enough to twist Iron within moments.

As far as I'm concerned, the people who lit them can burn in hell. Just like the people who died.

                              Fires in Australia

                              Hi guys,

coming from a small country which experiences similar catastrophes almost every summer, I would like to extend my condolences to all those who suffered a loss from the terrible fires in Victoria and wish for courage for all those involved in fire fighting... we watch this on the news (at home and also where I am now, in Dubai) ..... it's the saddest thing ever ...

I hope you get rain for 1 month !!!!

Its time s like this we should all make a effort and give what we can to the people that have lost all and show what aussies are all about..
after all we drive moded up rigs so i am sure we can spare 10 bucks..

if all our members threw in a 10 at your local we could raise a fair bit..

                                my thoughts..
