GME3440 handpiece problems

I was just wondering if anyone else has had any problems with the remote handpiece for the TX3440?
I was doing the weekly chore of cleaning the interior and noticed that LCD screen in the handpiece was at an angle to the body. When i turned the unit on all worked well,but the problem also is that you can change the channel or adjust the volume but it does not change on the screen!

The next time that you turn it off and then on it will have changed to the correct channel.

Not very happy as we haven't been out anywhere to shake the ^%$#$% out of it! We only purchased it in Aug 08 so at least it is not that old maybe they will replace.

I have contacted GME and have been told that i have to send the whole unit to the warranty section in Sydney. Not that this is a problem but because the unit is located under console,This just means taking all out and then when renewed or repaired putting it all back again.

Would be interested to hear if this is a problem or a one off.

Mines been in about 18months. In that time it's seen a fair bit of offroad and the hand set has been dropped a number of times but it is still woking fine.

Mine has been in the car since Jan 08 and it has been over a lot of corrugated roads etc, in fact it vibrated off its hook once and hit the centre console and it still works the way it did when it was brand new. No complaints from me, maybe it is just a one off problem.

I had a drama with the red lettering fading to the point where it was illegible on mine. I purchased the radio new in September 2007 and this happened in April 2008. I took the microphone only to GME in Sydney (Gladesville) after contacting them through their website

The staff there were great, and after a wait of about 15 minutes they swapped the damaged microphone for a new one under warranty. Super easy with no hassles.

See if you can email them some photos of the damage, maybe that will help to show them exactly what needs repairing and they may agree to you just sending the microphone.

yeh thanks guys for the replies, i finally got around to pulling it out. After contacting GME again they advised they would look at it if i dropped it at their office in Brisbane.
I called there today and after talking to them, they tried it and found that it is an internal problem.

They also advised that they have had some trouble with the lcd screen on some handpieces. If this was only the problem they would have replaced it there and then.

Now i just have to wait till next week to find out what the problem is in the main body and get a replacement or repaired.

So it might pay to keep an eye on your handpiece if you have one these.

Got the unit back friday and re fitted on weekend.GME repaired the hand piece and found the problem also was the h'piece pins in the main unit.Again they repaired this and all like new

They do have a great turnaround time for repairs and all under warranty.
