    Re: Wireless Thermometer for Fridge

    Hi all

I have had the opportunity to test both the TwoZone and Engels wireless fridge thermometers side by side.
As I mentioned in a previous post, the Engels range is considerably less than the TwoZone precisely because it is located in a tin box.
However, on saying this, how far do you need the range to be? The Engels serves its purpose very well if you mount it in the front of your vehicle with the fridge in the back. If you need greater range, the TwoZone should perhaps be your choice.
The Engels did "drop out" once and took about 5 to 10 minutes to re-establish a connection but this was an isolated occurrence.
The major difference between the two units (apart from appearance) is the very high thermal inertia of the Engels unit. This is because the sensing element is located inside a box that contains two batteries. So to read a change in temperature, the Engels unit has to heat or cool the plastic box, the circuit board and two batteries. The TwoZone sensor, on the other hand, is able to track temperature changes very quickly. What does this mean in reality - nothing!
Another point to consider with the Engels unit is that the batteries are located inside the fridge and we all know that batteries lose their efficiency when subjected to low temperatures. Again, what does this mean in reality, probably nothing either.
So, to reiterate my previous post - You choose!
Or maybe let your wife choose as she is either going to love or hate the thick red border around the Engels unit.

    Cheers - John
