  • VIC Bushfires - Narbethong Cleanup

My wife and I spent the weekend helping clean up after the bushfires in Narbethong. My wife cooked in the kitchen at the Black Spur Pub, breakfast, lunch and dinner for 100+ people as they have no chefs all the help is volunteer. They are feeding the locals and the firies as the fires are very much still going. I went out on a chainsaw cleanup crew. I am now a fully qualified chainsaw operator. We cleaned up a lot of trees from driveways, fence lines etc. The place has been destroyed, some of the survival stories from the locals are amazing. It was a small thing we could do to help them, we'll be back next weekend too. Here's a few pics, I didn't take that many as I thought it was rude.

Well done for helping out, you think your life sucks sometimes until you realise what these towns are up against.

Well done :!: .... I think all people that give up their time to help out deserve a pat on the back.

The responce to this disaster by ordinary Australians has been fantastic... Nation building stuff.

            Good on you again...

Well done mate. It is going to take quite some time to get the area back on its feet again.

                  Good work!!

Have you had a chance to go to Kinglake yet? I went there on the weekend to buy somethings (stimulate their economy). It was so sad to see so many homes lost and so many people still camped out in the town centre. Felt shivers down my spine when we drove past a place that had all flowers at their fence, they must have lost their lives trying to fight to save their home. Bit scary to know that a place we planned on buying up there 2 years ago is now burnt to the ground, makes me think that someone was looking after us to make us not buy that place!
