          Re: The Favourite Photo Thread

Some great shots there - haven't checked for a little while.
          Love the UK stuff.

Here's a few from the last month at uni (more science stuff).

First is a shot of a water drop (with red food colour) as it goes through a soap bubble, caught with short duration flash

Short duration flash again..this is the drop as it raises up into a spike, but done inside the soap bubble

And lastly a water bomb filled with helium until it bursts. Caught using flash with a duration of 0.000003 seconds!
It is done in a system called Schlieren which shows differences in heat & pressure. Very simply because the gas has a different pressure from the air, a parallel beam of light is bent around the pressure front.
The blue line running through the image is the shockwave created from the burst.

Hope you like them. By the way...NOT photoshopped
          Cheers - Phil Taylor

                No probs!

If you're interested in how it happens, I've uploaded a high speed video of what happens when you put a drop through a bubble here
I love the whole interaction of the water & bubble.

                    Re: The Favourite Photo Thread

Great stuff Mav, I love the water coming off the stilt's beak.

I used to shoot a bit of bird and a lot of landscape stuff but since being in uni I haven't had the time. I always plan to when on 4WD trips but looking after family means I don't get the time then either.
Heading off to Murray-Sunset nat. park in a few weeks photographing lizards in UV for uni, hoping I'll get a nice sunset or two as well.

                                Hi Mav, sure no problems.

The shot of the young kid was a bit of a fluke. I was taking shots of other things at the party when he took notice of my camera and walked towards me with his hands outstretched, going for my lens. So I pointed my camera towards him and hoped for the best. The blurry part at the bottom of the photo was his hand. He was holding onto the lens hood when the shot was taken.

His father wanted the photo straight away. Hope it ends up on a big print somewhere in the house.
