  • Perth Camping show@Claremont

Been down to the camping show today to pick up a few bits for the new camper etc and have to say I was very disappointed with the pricing....not many bargains to be had Im afraid.
Most of the items I enquired about could be bought cheaper elsewhere.

20m hose for drinking water $50- Bunnings $36 (Ranger was even worse they wanted $70 and its the exact same one in Bunnings  )
Locking wheel clamp for trailer $115 - Supercheap $64

I did get a Black widow 3m quick release sand flag though $120, thought that was ok as it was cheaper than ARB.

I managed to pick up a bushranger black max for $254. I then went to ORE and then that guy offered it to me for $240.. Damn. Great compressor though!

Our mission for the day was achieved - we looked at a lot of camper trailers, I think our mind is made up. It was good that it was pouring with rain when we first arrived, we got to see how they managed with a bit of rain. Armed with our poncho's we were off.
We were thrilled to see the dream pot we brought prior to the show in action, we can't wait to use it for real on a trip. We got it alot cheaper than at the show though, we picked it up at BCF for $219 , it's usually $279, I think they were selling it at the show for about $260.
The real surprise for the day was coming back to the car and finding a little white piece of paper stuck to the windscreen. Hmmm, it turned out to be an expensive day after all.

            A couple of questions two+four

            1 Whats a 'dreampot'?

2 Did you park on the grass right outside the entrance? We parked there initially then saw the sign which said 'disabled parking'. There were already about 30 cars parked up there and it was tempting to leave it but we decided to move just in case. (I picked up 2 tickets last week in Leederville so I was bit wary)

The dream pot is a thermos cooker, a simplified hay box stew arrangement that you can carry in the car, see http://www.dreampot.com.au

Yes that is where we parked. We had never been to the showgrounds before and followed the railway from Freo. It was pouring with rain the gutters where full of water and we failed to notice the blue line. We parked where we saw other cars parking as we could not see any signs for car parking or any marshals directing traffic. When we came out of the show in the afternoon in the sun we saw the disabled signs and the blue line.

Doesn't it really get up ya nose when you are trying to do the right thing and you get sprung!

It's a shame that it appears a number of companies no longer value the people which go along to these shows by having decent discounts on items. It seems the only real benefit is that you can easily compare products side by side without having to drive around from place to place.

It happens to me a fair bit. You drive around and around the car park looking for that one elusive car park and over in the distance like a dream is a vacant spot. How good is that. You speed over and as you pass the last vacant spots you see that the dream spot has that little handicapped sign posted in some insignificant way that can only be seen when you are there. Doh. Got me again.

You creep off to the other vacant spot you saw on the last round only to find it is now occupied. In the end you park on the street and need a taxi to get to your location. Doh.
