  • What is your one "Can't Do Without" Camping Item?

    Hey All,

Lets make this the thread for the one item that you must take with you on a camp. You know not the usual run of the mill stuff like sleeping bags etc but the odd things that once you used it you would never be without it. Doesn't have to be one item either if you have a couple of things you want to list then go for it.

I will start, we usually go camping in winter here so it gets darn cold of a night. Well last year I happened to spy a gas heater that takes those little disposable gas cans in K-Mart. It is called a Little Sun heater and last weekend we used it for the first time and holy moley does it work well. It warmed up our annex area so well we were pealing off our jumpers. Of course you have to use it in a well ventilated area but it did a fantastic job and we would not go without it now.

The other thing that was absolutely brilliant is the LED lesnser P7 torch we bought from Ample Outdoors. WOW this torch is absolutely the best I have used, it is small and easily carried in a pocket or the belt pouch it comes with but this torch is just amazing. Last weekend we used it at Glen Helen and people were remarking at how well it lit up the walking areas between the campgrounds and homestead.

Yes i know it's a basic item and nothing unusual. If you've ever forgotten it you'll soon realise it's the one thing you should never forget. You can forget other things and manage to work your way around the issue, this one never has a nice solution. Hence why one lives in the glovebox.
allways got a roll in the glovebox, handiest thing ever.

as for camping gotta remember beer, duct tape and sausages.

in addition to some of the items mentioned above

                Jiffy Firelighters

It's a bit hard trying to light a fire first thing in the morning, just about 5 degrees, everything has frost on it and you have no paper ops: . Ended up using a can of olive oil spray and a lighter  but I am sure the Jiffy's would have been easier

Not for me but for the wife.
A old electric breville cappuccino machine that I removed the element from the bottom and now use on a gas burner.
Does the lot , expresso coffee and steam froths milk.

Gotta be the wife I guess

As for something YOU can make use of...
                              1. BIG plastic tubs so if the water isn't suitable for tin lids they can still cool off (& for packing stuff of course)

                              2. 240V power cord - in case you end up in a caravan park with wife in hospital, 40 degree heat and kids with dia-horror-ea (as happened to us at Christmas) - a decent fan and other appliances can actually save the day!

                              3. Ocky straps, zip ties, tie downs & a good lump of wood (useful for many things).
                              Cheers - Phil Taylor
