I think the costs in my initail post (copied from the trusty net) are not quite right.

Queensland is more expensive but not as much as stated.

Victorian pay $593.80 for a `Light Motor Vehicle' - they don't differentiate by cylinders like Qld do. (That is vehicles under 4500kg)

That cost comprises $178 for registration and the rest is `Traffic Accident Charge' ($378.00) and associated insurance duty ($37.80)

        see http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Registration/

Who knows how long these will stay like this - they could well be raising theirs shortly as well (Our Transport Dept web site still shows the old figures as of today...)

I'm not sure where the '$800 a year' comes from but it would appear to be what a 6 cylinder car costs in full ($801.40) now, ie registration ($415.60) , CTP ($340) and `Traffic Improvement Fee' ($45.80) 8 cylinders and above more.

The statement below should be at least comparing 800 to 600.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good stir.....

Still 666 to 801 is a big hell of a step.... can do without it of course.

I think that the law should be changed as in my opinion, "the interpretation by the individual officer ". We all know that we all simple people can't do anything to change any rules as it is impossible. So now because of this if we lose insurance rates are affected not to mention court costs, time missed from work, family stress all because of an officer who either interpreted the law wrong or was having a bad day or does not no any better.
