  • Numpty Nissan Driver

Last Friday a Victorian bloke sent off a distress call whilst out along the Balgo to Lake McKay road after his 2006 Nissan Patrol got bogged on a sandy side-track to a waterhole. He had all the fruit: electric and hand winch, bull bag, sand anchor, 8 spare tyres, shovels, etc.

Rescuers arrive and he tells them the winch isn't working. One of the rescuers takes a look at the car, locks the free wheeling hubs and tells the Vic to get in and drive off. Cars drives out easily. Turns out he had no idea how any of the gear actually worked, including the winch.

Apparently he was similarly rescued from the Simpson last year.

I am sure we will read about his obituary in the near furture. Not only a Numpty (great word), but he is in running for a Darwin Award later on in the year if he does not educate himself. Worst off he may end up getting someone else hurt in the process

        Bull bag - exhaust jack.

I'm sure I got the expression from one of the original manufacturers of these devices.

blokes like that need a flogging and firstly need to know how to use their vehicle and recovery gear, if i was the copper i would have given him an ear bashin and then told him to try and get himself out by using the gear he has got. if ya dont know how to use a 4wd or the recovery gear go and do a 4wd driver training course, and after this if ya have no idea, @$%& off and dont go offroad again. clowns like this only take valuable resourses away from people who actually need them in an emergency. thats my 2 cents cheers samo.

I'll see your Numpry and I'll raise you a dingbat.

            How's this for a dingbat?

What you are looking at is a Toyota Hiace stuck in the middle of Woobadda Creek. Half way up the Bloomfield track. He drove past about ten signs that say "4WD ONLY".

Anybody who has been up this way would realise that the Bloomfield Track is no place for a Hiace...... or dingbats for that matter.

After he was pulled out by the 100 series in the background (backwards) he tried to go back across........ AGAIN!!!!!

              Re: Numpty Nissan Driver

There was a story some years ago here in WA very similar to this. If I remember correctly, a tourist in a hired 4wd camper had driven onto beach in Northern WA and gotten it bogged. The spot was very remote and the person was beginning to suffer the effects of dehydration and lack of food when they were found. Can't for the life of me remember how they were found, but they had been there a fortnight or so I believe. When found, the rescue guys put the vehicle in 4WD and told them to drive it off the beach..... which they did. I remember it because there was another incident of people heading out under prepared around that time also and there was a discussion in the paper for a week or so about better educating tourists and other remote travelers. You can't judge everybody but, seems like a stupid mistake to make, not knowing how your life saving gear works? :?.

                Re: Numpty Nissan Driver

Back in '96 I rescued a couple of lovely Belgian girls who were in an old four door Gemini and cruising around Australia. Nothing unusual in that.

These gals were on the entrance track to El Questro. The gem had got stuck on huge river stones whilst attempting to cross a creek bed just off the Gibb River Road. They were very happy to be rescued. We parked the car off the side of the track after winching it off the rocks. We then spent a couple of days driving them around the waterholes in our troopy.

If anyone is familiar with Zeebeedee Springs waterhole, well, all I will say is that these lovely Belgians aren't big on wearing bathers!!!!

                  Belgians huh.

There's also the story of the overseas tourists getting stuck in the sand at Halligan bay, Lake Eyre. In summer. One died trying to walk out. The sergeant went out to recover the car, I think it was a britz. He just let the tyres down and drove it out of the sand.

                  Takes your breath away.

                      Keeping with the Nissan Theme:

April just gone we went camping at Barrington, and next to us was a guy and family with a brand spanker white Nissan Navara TD on looking he only had a few 000ks on the clock and had just driven by the local ARB and asked for one of everything.
The day he was leaving he came out and started it up no worries........ then proceded to leave it idling for over 2 hours  while they packed up the campsite, and wondered when he went to pull away why it didnt like pulling the camper till he gave it a bootfull ...ssssssssmokin! .........
