I am sure you will love the Yongala. Have been there a number of times as I previously lived in Townsville. Best wreck dive i have ever done, and that is quite a few now.

WOW, WOW, WOW, what a fantastic dive. Didn't enjoy the trip out, the waiting between the dives or the trip back but how sensational was the diving!!
We had 1.7 meter swell, 15-20knot winds and only 7 - 10 meter viz but still it was one of the best, no, THE BEST dive I have ever done.

Who would think that a tragedy 98 years ago would produce such joy nowadays. The fish life, including many sea snakes, rays, tawny nurse shark, huge long moray eels and such with prolific coral and colors you wouldn't believe. Got to see the structure of the ship easily including the masts, davits, funnels, keel and the ablution area. We were all experienced divers and there were plenty of cameras down there. Just waiting for a CD from the dive company (they had a computer meltdown yesterday). How do you top a dive like that??

Hey Pearlie, you did well to get out. The ocean conditions in Cairns have been pretty ordinary, I did get out though. Vis pretty poor and currents a bit ordinary. Bagged some okay trout though.

Checking seabreeze, I don't think either of us will be heading out for a dive this weekend though :!:

Hey Pearlie, you did well to get out.

Did I mention that 8 out of the 9 of us spewed on the way out, between dives and on the way back?? Rough was not the word! :cry: :mrgreen:
The boat was one of those oversized Zodiac looking jobbies so we felt every single lump. I suppose the company was out for every buck they can make, moreover, there are people like me who have only certain days available to get wet. They operate nearly every day.

Oh, just for the record...Scuba's cheating

How can SCUBA be cheating? I was not out for a feed, just a look. So too were all those guitar sharks and the resident bull shark, thankfully. I couldn't have kept anything down anyway. There is one massive Queensland groper residing there. There were also some very impressive coral trout and cod too. Found the youtube link for a looksee.

I look forward to barramundi fishing the Daly River, NT, especially the Mango Farm area. The only waves there are the tidal surge which can also be impressive. :shock:

I'm with you JamesC love spear fishing... although you need to have some pretttttyyyy large kahunas to attempt up here... looking forward to hopefully getting out in Cairns over Christmas and heading up the dam for some waterskiing.... haven't had a barefoot in years

I always wanted to spear Weipa, I imagine that you'd have to head a fair way off shore to find any reasonable water clarity

Not at all, the water clarity is really really good, it's only 20 - 30 feet deep for a couple km's out from shore... the main issue is sharks!!! :shock: :shock: :shock: lots and lots of them. and they ain't scared of ya either...

no doubt about it , my other hobby is a ski boat .... 16ft camero riva ' power from 308, dog clutch, old school but sweet boat

, but the last 18mths have been consumed outside of work/family, with the build up of a off road buggy powered by a honda VF750
99.9% finished , just sorting out teething problems... this is my second love.. very proud of this hand built, customed design ( my own ) buggy ... butane :lol:

:arrow: better make that, 95% finished, as hit a tree last time out and the rear axle just aint the same :roll:

Photography is a hobby of mine that I spend way too much money on too be honest :lol: Probably spend more on photog gear than I do on the Prado. :shock: My next lens is going to set me back around $6K if I can get it at a bargain price. :twisted:

Here is a moon shot I took recently, hand held with my Canon 5DMk2 using a Sigma 80-400mm lens at 400mm setting.



Way better than anything I managed to get out of my telescope.

Nice shot.

Photography is an addition and far worse than Heroin :mrgreen:

I have 5D Mk2 and I don't want any more lens :twisted: as most the lens only used few times!!
