  • Lawn Mowers

My mower has died and I am now looking at purchasing a new one.
I am after peoples recommendations on what to buy and some feedback on whats out there?

We don't have a mower shop in town so has to be a trouble free if possible

For that chuck, you'll want a honda. A little more expensive than the others but they are highly reliable

Too bad you were not around the Newcastle area as I am selling a small ride on Murray 13.5 HP complete with grass catcher and it would be lucky to have done 10 hours work. It is made for small lots with good turning circle etc, I bought it for my father to do our old house but since moving to a smaller lot they are now getting it done by a local guy who only charges $20.

            Jims Mowing.

Seriously. I have never owned a mower and I am ahead on costs and hassle.

I'm starting to agree with you on this, Mrs OldGreyGuy pays one of the neighbourhood kids to mow the lawn beacuse I work such crappy hours and I ise the weekend time for other things, and I'm forever having to get the mower fixed or repaired. I figure that I'd be better off using a service.

Agree completely. For 20-30 large i cant be bothered, better things to do with my time.

However the wife is a different story, she will struggle all weekend with the mower and wipper-snipper. I have worked out that the 'path of least resistance' is to leave her to it and say nothing  :?

Might be hard to find a Jims in the Pilbara though.

Yea hard to get Jim up here. As for Fishnuts idea, just brings the home sick overseas visitors
Honda looks like the go as there is a dealer here.

                      Re: Lawn Mowers

I've had a 2str Victa for the last 10 yrs or so - only got a small yard though (700m2 block) - it's still going but is a bit tricky to get going sometimes and kicks out a bit of smoke when it starts, and it's like pushing a block of concrete around with a stick and it doesn't so much as cut the grass more like flails it with it's rotary blade...apart from that it's fine and it was cheap...

From that I'd say go with a 4str self-propelled with a large grass box based on the average sized suburban block but if you're in the Pilbara then I guess your block is a bit bigger eh ?

MY mate had a mechanical attachment on his post-war tractor (looked like an enlarged Victa blade under a cowel) and he reckoned it moved his 5 acres pretty quickly.
