  • The outback comes to town - Sydney dust storm

    ......So I couldn't get to the outback, so the outback came to Sydney this morning.......... I have not seen a dust storm like this in Sydney before,

    But not half as bad as this footage from Broken Hill yesterday;

    Sydney Dust Storm

    Well,
    I have been missing a trip to the outback, but this morning the Prado looked like it did a trip to the outback by its self last night. The Prado is now a nice shade of red. The wife tried to tell the kids she took it four wheel driving last night after they went to bed.

            Re: The outback comes to town - Sydney dust storm

            i stupidly left my windows down a little as i do to keep the car cool whilst at work (in our own secure carpark).
            went out at lunch time to find everything in the car had a layer of this red dust. ops:
            the large filters on some of our machines and robots changed from a blacky grey to a quite obvious orange.
            looks like alot of work coming up cleaning them, and alot more money wasted on rejecting dust affected doors.
            they were saying on the radio, that the dust might even reach NZ.
            that's alot of dust to travel over water and still have some affect.
            they reckon it's 600kms long. will be watching the news for more footage

                        The dust arrived in Cairns yesterday. I was going to top dress the lawn, but I might not have to now. :wink:

                          Did anybody see the guy in the Toyota ute who rolled in the Simpson and survived the dust storm, activated his EPIRB and was rescued?

                            Yes, saw the news article, the version I saw said that he had to keep clearing sand/dust while he waited for 7 hours. 7 Hours isn't bad when you consider that he was in a remote area so the rescuers had a distance to go.

                            Good testament for carrying an EPIRB in the remoter regions of Australia.

                            EDIT: Early version of the article said 7 hours, now reading 10 hours.
