  • Off topic - Apple 32gb iphone

I've had a 16Gb since the iPhone was released. I'd buy it again.

Best feature is the lack of mind-bending interface that we have endured from Nokia and SE since time began. I'm hoping that the message is getting through and all phones will suddenly become user friendly. haha.

App Store is amazing. More stuff there than you could possibly have time to play with.

Network is important when away from wireless internet, so you need to do your homework if you spend a lot of time away from it. I'm with Optus, but I use a Tel$tra prepaid when going bush.

Worst feature is it won't run for a week without a recharge. If you use all the toys (like a GPS app running continuously) you can drain the battery in a few hours. Not a huge problem when vehicle based though.

Another vote for the iPhone. The user interface is just sooo easy and the range of apps is incredible, it's much more than a phone to me, more of an artificial intelligence to help guide me through the day.

As Michael said, battery life can be a problem but a vehicle mount means a quick charge between customers.

    Cheers,

If you do a lot of texting...... it is just sensational...... very quick and intuitive.

Also, found the bluetooth connection to my Kenwood unit to be excellent.

The specialised brackets make it easy to use on the go as well.....

my wife has an i phone, she loves it, i think it is crap, having to log on set up accounts etc with itunes was enough to give me the sh$ts when i was setting it up.

Personally i love the nokia's, i have a 3g blackberry bold which is also a great phone. The nokia i think you can a car kit for with the long range aerial? i have a car kit for the blackberry with aerial connection and charger it is great.

These are the cradles i use, they are called Bury comfort cradle, charges with aerial, i noticed one for the iphone, that could sway me, i still like the nokia's.

i've been arguing with my inner geek over getting one of these for a while too, i really don't have any real "need" for it with a work supplied and funded blackberry but i still want one.

battery is the main bugbear for me with it though, consistent feedback from a few phone dealers is that if you actually use it as a phone it stuggles to last a day, but i stumbled accross this thing

          http://www.mophie.com/juice-pack-air-p/ ... 3g-blk.htm

while browsing for random stuff a few days ago apparently doubles the battery life.

there's a store importing them to Oz, sells them for $99 AUD.

beside the battery they're hard to get a hold of, 4 optus, 3 telstra and a couple of other small retailers all turned me away saying no stock...

First time I have heard anyone complain about battery life.......
I have had mine.... since they came out about a year ago?
and have never had flat battery. I do plug it in most nights, but it is never even half discharged.
I admit I don't use the internet features alot........ maybe surfing on the phone drains it quicker?

Got 16 Gb and love it.
I use Macs so the synching is dead easy.
I use it as remote as well running airtunes through my stereo and also an Apple Tv. The apps for it make so much more than a phone. Things like airmouse which turns it into a remote mouse for the computer, nerdy I know but I use it a lot!
Mine goes on the charger next to the bed every night so charge is not a problem. There was talk the the new 3.1 firmware increased battery life but I have not updated yet so can't say for sure.

This is being done on my now as a matter of fact!

The thing is, if you just use it as a phone and don't make a lot of calls it will last a couple of days easy. My previous phones have all lasted around a week used like that.

Once you start using it more as a smartphone the powerdrain on the battery increases a lot, and a daily recharge becomes a requirement.

I'm not complaining, just pointing out a limitation. It's all a tradeoff between the size of the phone and battery life, you can't have a nice slim phone with all the features that the iPhone has and great battery life.

Re: Off topic - Apple 32gb iphone

get one. you wont regret it. Ive had nokias and SE's in the past and kept getting the sh!ts bcos they crash for the most simplest of tasks as the processors are so rubbish. so since mobiles are moving towards multi media I gave the iPhone a go and love it. I was surprised how fast it does anything incl internet like youtube, google maps, goggle earth etc. the lastest iTunes makes it very easy to sync and set up your iphone. as others have said, battery doesnt last long- for 1 day max and that with plenty of internet/email use, work calls, and ipod.

I use it a lot at work for an ipod. Also good while my daughter is at dancing, surfing the net on Macca's free wifi.

Re: Off topic - Apple 32gb iphone

I just got at 32GB 3GS last Friday, and I love it so far. I've been putting it off because previous versions just couldn't do what my old Windows Mobile6 phone (HTC) could do - things like MMS, bluetooth modem, edit excel spreadsheets, global copy/paste... the list went on. ALL those shortcomings have been remedied, and the 3 network basically gave me one free for $5 less per month than I had been paying on my old phone. So I'm now an iPhone man. Love it so far.

A few dollars on EBay will set you up with whatever docks, chargers, car chargers, USB chargers etc to keep the thing going. I've also read about that "jacket" that doubles the battery life - might try it because I use a phone a lot.

But suddenly all the things my old phone could "theoretically" do (like view Pradopoint), the iPhone does WELL. I gave up trying to view pradopoint on the old phone because the browser was lousy. The iPhone browser is great and you can actually enjoy looking at a web site such as this on the iPhone just because of the interface (finger zoom in/out, great resolution, etc)

Re: Off topic - Apple 32gb iphone

I've had one (16Gb 3G) for about a year now. I am a heavy user ($300-$600 pm before I switched to Optus Timeless).

                            Good
                            - Email and Calendar Sync - I can sync multiple calendars and email accounts ans work and private stay seperate. This is the one reason I switch from Nokia and Windows Mobile Phones
                            - Easy to use one handed (or thumbed)
                            - Bluetooth works great in the Prado with the Toyota Radio
                            - The Applications.
                            - Having an iPOd everywhere

                            Bad
                            - Crap battery life, I'd be luck to get a days use without recharging; I dont switch of WiFi, GPS or BT as I dont want to dick around when I come into into the office, car or home. Apple's answer is to switch these off to have better battery life, that would probably work. Reading on the web says that this has not been improved in the 3GS. For me its a pain as my old Windows Mobiel Phone (Treo) could go 2-3 days without recharge (with BT etc on)
                            - Crap reception outside of cities; although that is probably Optus too. My wife's freebie Samsung gets better Optus reception by a long way.

got the 32g unit, and its reception has been better than the Nokia n95 it replaced, and really, in simple terms, it makes every other phone Ive had like a bakerlite rotary dial phone in comparison for how much better it is. There is also a car kit with reradiating aeriel to phone from cradle that will take the big aeriel for more remote travel.

I have the big 3G aeriel on my truck, about to swap cradles for the iphone.

If only everything this electronic was so easy to use.

Mine gets me a day per charge no problem, cant get 2 days with my use though.
