  • Large Earth Tremor in Darwin

About 10-15 minutes ago, Darwin was shaken by a HUGE earth tremor (or quake) for at least 5 minutes or so.

It sounded and felt like a huge heavy train was passing nearby.

Everything shook, but not violently, but just constantly. And there was this very loud humming noise the whole time. My dog went psycho at the effect. You could also see the pool water sloshing about too. I see from the websites there was a 7.0 magnitude earthquake in the Banda Sea which was the cause of this:

Hope this hasn't causes a tsunami somewhere. :|

Yeah that was luck Pricey, id might have found myself on a plane headig north. We get the odd tremour here in Alice, we feel them because our house is on stilts. I dont think most people realise we get them, as most houses are single storie built on a concrete slab,

The following is a graphic of all recorded earthquakes in recent times. The red colour indicates within the last hour. The blue means within 24 hours and yellow within the last week.

Looks like there's a fair bit of movement going on at the moment - especially around Indonesia.

Here is a link to the largest earthquakes since 1900. There does seem to be a bit of an increase at the moment
