Hobie has been making great products for years, they started out making surf boards back in the late 50s. http://www.hobie.com/surfboards/boards.aspx?col=1 Original Hobie balsa boards are worth a small fortune these days, I had one years ago. Lost it and a heap of other great old long boards in a garage fire at my folks, Dad lost his restored 53 FJ as well. It was all insured, but you cant replace everthing with money. It was his very first car, took him years to restore it. Anyhow my folks have an older Hobie tamdem sea kayak, doesnt have the paddle system attached, its just got the paddles. We head down to Minnamurra entrance for a paddle when im in town. So if your thinking of buying one consider theses as a bit of a Rolls Royce of sea kayaking and cats, well at least they seem to want to be at their prices,

The Kona is a conventional paddled Kayak not a pedal powered mirage drive version & is around $1700 including 2 paddles & other bits & pieces so it is not too expensive compared to what else is available
What are you planning to use it for? I've got both a Hobie Outback (Mirage Drive) and a Malibu X-Factor kayak and would choose the Hobie any day. They are made batter than any other kayak I've seen and for fishing the Mirage drive is awesome. When I first looked at it I thought the mirage drive was a gimmick but they work extremely well. When I'm out with my wife she uses the Hobie and there is no way I can out paddle her.
Just plan on using it for general stuffing around really in flatish water (also the Kona is a conventional paddled Kayak not a mirage drive one)
I have had a look around the shops & on the net & tandem kayaks are limited in what is available in a shortish length & lightish weight (we are full time on the road) & the Hobie looks like reasonable quality for the price (around the $1700 mark with 2 paddles & other stuff included)
Regarding the fishing we already have a 11 foot inflatable (achillies) with us with a 8hp Suzuki to fish from but are looking for something as well that doesn't require any set up
