Sunday arvo just got into Warburton (WA) to hear that a near new Nissan Patrol had rolled about 110km north east of the community.
A Victorian family - mum, dad and three kids under 15 - were driving from Uluru down the Great Central Road towards Kalgoorlie and beyond. The driver lost control and the car rolled on the gravel. Luckily all escaped without injury. They used a sat phone to call the Warburton police. The troopers arrived and winched the car back onto it's wheels. They used a snatch strap to pull the roo-bar off the front wheel. They had to change one tyre that had blown - not sure if this caused the accident in the first place.
After the car was righted they commenced to limp into Warburton only to have the engine cease a few kilometres doew the road. The family and some of their gear was loaded into the police troopy and they were brought into Warburton for a check-up at the nursing post. The family was able to get a plane flight to Kalgoorlie. I brought a ton of their gear back to Kalgoorlie in my troopy yesterday. When I say a ton - I mean it. They had all manner of camping gear, pots, pans, solar panels, recovery gear. And the roof rack was chockers too. It was clearly an over loaded vehicle as far as I can ascertain. It also had a 2 inch lift.
Well, with a lack of recovery vehicles - the nearest tow truck is in Kalgoorlie 900km away - it wasn't long before the locals got their hands on the car and stripped it clean of every useable part - including one of the large Engel freige freezer units. I hope their insurance company is understanding.
At least they are all alive and well to see in the New Year.
