Re: Who gives blood?
Yep, being doing it for a number of years, and always make sure that I go back every 3 months for whole blood donation cause i am CMV negative. This means my blood can be used for babies with no consequences to them.
About 80% of the population have CMV (Cytomegalovirus) which is always present in your blood and is no good for a newborn baby as their immune system is not developed yet. So only approx. 20% of the population are CMV negative and when you factor the low numbers of donors it doesn't leave much for the young ones. If you do have CMV you can still donate though.
Also my employer is part of the corporate donation plan so I get time off work to go and give during the week which makes life easier.
Encourage people you know to go and at least try it once and see if they don't feel better about themselves after doing it...
