  • 200 series KDSS collapsed

A mate bought a 200 series V8 (petrol) with the kinetic suspension setup around about the same time I bought my 120 GXL. He's always giving it to me about not having a proper full size Landcruiser.

Well now I can laugh because the KTSS has collapsed completely on the right hand side front and rear of his 'cruiser. The local dealer says parts have to come from Japan to fix it!

I told him that driving Alice Springs to Kalgoorlie at 150km/hr along the Gt Central Rd wasn't the brightest thing to do!

You can give someone a great piece of equipment and some numpty will always tear it up. When I was working in Africa...I could give the local boy a crow bar, band new, and come back and it would be broke and all they were working was pulling nails. 150 km on a rough road will tear up the best...numpty.

He's also Irish which may also help explain why he managed to break it.

When I get the details of what has to be replaced I'll let you know. I had my Prado in for 20K service at the same time as the 200 was in to be repaired and when I asked the service manager how the cruiser was going he just shook his head.

I've seen a fair few Cruisers with KDSS on the piss now (As well as the 150 on here)... maybe it's more trouble than it's worth. :?:

Personally I wouldn't tick that option box.... locker beats KDSS everytime

May be it should be KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) instead of KDSS

He was told by the dealership that he needed new shocks on the right side only.

I don't know about you lot but I would expect that they replaced all four of the things. They did that to my 90 series under warranty when I killed the shocks after only about 25,000km. But that was after Gt Central - Tanami - Gibb River - Mitchell Plateau and Karijini in one trip.

                Re: 200 series KDSS collapsed

have seen kdss equipped 200's sit uneven after being left overnight on uneven surfaces. having been told by the local toyota dealer that a special tool worth several thousand $ was required and would not be in town for several weeks more research was done. there are a set of valves along the passenger chassis rail that when opened (approx 1.5 turns i believe) actaully levels the vehicle out somewhat. the hydraulics in the system just become unbalanced (9 times out of 10 anyways).
