2 PP members rigs (me and ninpo) went for an over night stay up at stockton last night.
we thought whilst up that way we would check out samurai beach, neither of as having been there before.
found the entry and down we go.
just as we got on to the very very soft sand (much softer than stocko was) we past and laughed at a jeep trying to get out (bogged down as we past).
did a loop of the beach, but bailed at seeing so not to pleasant people (nudist beach).
we took a run at the exit, and made the rise, then just needed to follow the sand track to the track back to the road.
trouble was about to be found.
we came up to were the jeep was bogged and we were in his tracks, so needed to move across to the other set (2 tracks wide),
and i started bogging down (hadn't let any air out as we were able to keep moving).
we then notice what looked like steam or light grey thin smoke coming from a jackaroo that was trying to recover the bogged jeep.
we got out and pointed out the steam/smoke, and the reply was "we have overheated the transmission".
but then we went and had a closer look and then a flame could be seen in the drivers inner guard.
OH SH--.
yelled out to the other vehicles coming up behind for all fire extinguishes, but to no avail.
then it was a quick dash to let down our tyres and move our/and other vehicles back.
ran back to help push the jeep back, but the driver had no idea.
got the jeep away after yelling instructions numerous times.
then it was a quick rush to save keys and wallets from the jackaroo, and just move away and let it go.
we felt so bad for the owners as all they could do was call the fire brigade and wait,
and being we were still on the sand, wait longer for smaller 4wd units to get there.
it took 20 mins of full flames for the 4wd fire truck to get there by which time it was finished.
it's just wrong that the people were trying to do the right thing and help someone out, and they end up losing their car,
and the bogged vehicle drives away after the flames have finished. it's just not right.
