  • The Journey Begins...

    Hi All,

We've just joined the Prado community after having about 8 years of enjoyment from a 99 Forester (the 2 litre). It's been a great machine, quite capable and very economical, but we are contemplating a big trip from Perth to Karijini, the Kimberley and the Gibb River Road this year, and thought something a little more robust was in order. Thought about kitting up the Forester, thought about hiring a campervan, but then started gravitating towards the Prado due to the huge fuel capacity and the (apparently) excellent D4D diesel - and the fact that it's a "real" 4WD. Always nice to have your own, so we've just signed up for an 08 Standard model, and will take delivery in a few days - woo hoo. Looking forward to being part of it all.

    Cheers

    Re: The Journey Begins...

    Don't do it Steve!

I too owned a Forester and thought I could do better.

Owning a Prado means a life of dispair, of want and penury. Look at the posts around here and you will realise that a Prado is like any other drug... just one more mod, just one more mod....it doesn't stop!

Seriously though, I hope that you enjoy your vehicle and the places it will take you. The wealth of experience contained here will save you hours and hours of research and I trust you will keep us updated with your travels and build-up over time.

    Cheers,,

    Dave

Thanks Dave. We smiled when we read your post, but it has turned out to be spot on. Our Prado hasn't been here a week yet, but already I've been wearing a path to 4WD and other related shops! Pradology 101 is definitely the subject of the moment. And you are right about the info here on PradoPoint - it's a goldmine. We've just had a long weekend here in WA and we went out to play and put nearly 1000km on our beast - nearly all blacktop, but just wanted to get a feel for touring in it. Delighted to record 8.8 litres/100km, only a sip more than the faithful old Forester. Very impressive.

      Cheers
