It was interesting to see the QLD police driving what was reported to be bullet proof Prados. I saw 3 x 120's on the news earlier this week transporting the animal (alleged) accused of the abduction and murder of the little girl in northern QLD.
In NSW our cops drive tricked up Patrols with extended rear platform type bars and grab handles on ARB roof baskets.

Most off road Police vehicles in NSW are standard Pajero diesels with plastic smart bar, original equipment road biased tyres, and small Narva or Lightforce driving lights.

Bullet proof was in the news describing the windows...Cairns CIB and police have had the Prados up here for years.

Sorry I forgot to say our TRG or Public Order (read riot control) type coppers drive the patrols. You can't see it in this pic but the roof basket has another bar on the rear to use as a grab handle and the rear step is like a platform for them to stand on.


I follwed one this afternoon but it was unmarked

They don't have bullet-proof windows - trust me.

Our mob won't even put tint on the glass any more.

The only bullet-resistant vehicle in the fleet is the big black truck, oh and the 1960's Saracen armoured car.

All the vehicles are pretty much stock these days except for maybe some heavy duty suspension, long range tanks, bars, winches and roofracks just like everyone else can buy. The pursuit cars are even stock. The only bit that you can't have are the blue and white stickers that say "POLICE."

I was one of the TV camera guys at Bundaberg last week and the glass was a triple tint but not bullet proof .I was still able to get a shot of the guy in the back but you had to press right up to it. The Prados were part of the Public Safety Response Team or the PSRT they specialise in maintaning public order and policing high profile events like schoolies.

Not all prado's are bullet proof. A mate had to recover one at Fraser Island when the boys in blue got them selves bogged.

Maybe next time they will let some air out of their tyres to save themselves the embarassment.

Here is a pic of one of the Sheriff vehicles from Ouray County, Colorado. It's a tough rugged place most of the county is above 8,000 ft. Hnd has many mountian peaks over 14,000 ft. They needed a tough vehicle that can handle the terrain so they went with the FJ Cruiser. The ironic thing is that Ouray is labled as "The Jeep Capitol of the World".
