Finally got hold of a stethoscope to use on the pradoto trace unusual noises.
I have seen themm with the button thingy taken off and a long extension added to reach down into difficult areas.
Is it as simple as cutting it off and putting a bit of thick wire into the tube?

    Regards

All the non-electronic engineering stethoscopes I have used, normally have alloy extension pieces that screw into each other to reach hard to get spots, they are also fitted with a mechanical attenuator to dampen the audible signals amplitude as necessary to detect the frequencys of interest. You can experiment with bits of wire etc. given that I still use the old MK1 long shank screwdriver from time to time as a stethoscope, it takes lots of practice to pinpoint noisy bearings etc.

Well, well, well...this forum has taught me a lot over time. I did not know that stethoscopes could be used on cars!!!!! I thought we only used them in health!! I think it's a great idea
