  • 4WD/Camping location wanted - Driving distance from sydney

Just want some feedback from those that have been there and done that. Im looking to oragnise a camping weekend with a few mates, and do some 4wding at the same time too.

We want something that is within a few hours drive of Sydney as we dont want to spend hours on the road

The places ive been thinking of is as follows:
    • Barrington Tops[/*:m:26orx8qp]
    • Newnes SF[/*:m:26orx8qp]
    • Briddle Track (I've heard this is more like a fire trail than a 4wd track)[/*:m:26orx8qp]

Obviously we want somewhere we can hopefully light a camp fire, and has (at least) a wood bbq (or better still, Gas/Electric). And by day somewhere that has some fairly decent 4wd trails to explore and/or somewhere to explore on foot.

Any feedback here would be greatly appreciated.

barrington is gr8 spot to camp, lots of place to choose from, some spots have fire places and fire wood can be gathered, stockton beach as also a top place, take everything, it has no fire wood or fireplaces or toilets, and the watagans is also a top spot, same as barrington some spots have fireplaces if you choose 1 of the above you wont be dissapointed. cheers samo

      Hi Ryzz,

As you know, there are heaps of trails at Newns with some good camping.
      Barrington is great.
The Bridle vail track has good camping, but limited 4wd to my knowlege.

There's also the watagans SF that has some camping and 4wd opportunities.

      Cheers

        G'day Ryzz,
There's a camping ground called The Diggings which is not far from Capertee , Google and you'll find it .It's a free one that's a National Park and has BBQ's and a pit toilet .The Turon runs through there also . A bit further up the road is Turon Gates which is a pay camping area but very popular so don't go on long weekends . Further up the road is free camping along the river but it's very steep and loose getting down there .
There's lots of great places to camp but bloody work gets in the way !
        Cheers
        Ross
