    Re: Axe Vs Chainsaw

I plan to pick up a new axe and bowsaw to carry, mainly for camping (firewood etc). Perhaps a hatchet in the tool kit as well. Just wondering though, a lot of the comments mention use of the chainsaw/axe for clearing deadfall from tracks ... does anyone carry drag chains? chains would probably deal with 90% of the dead fall I have come across on tracks.

A lot of the time the trees that fall across the road are very long, with top and bottom still entangled in the bush. ( well here in Victoria anyway ). It's not possible to drag those away, so we'll use a chainsaw to cut a gap wide enough for the vehicle. Probably best to have both drag chains/straps and a chainsaw.

FYI I saw a good deal on the little Stihl saw when I was getting a new chain.

Stihl MS170 with bonus hard carry case and cap - $299.
Also on the Stihl website banner.
          Cheers

the husqvarna 236, the old one with out the quick adjust: which is shit, is a great little saw.

Really easy to pull the bar off too which means it all fits inside the husky hard carry case.

The .4040 lever action log splitter works a treat too.
