Re: Top speed
He may have a large property that he can do that speed on. There is no law in relation to speeding on private property and no, there is no road that goes through for the public...Originally posted by winnilissA friend told me that his 120 series D4D did 175kmWinston.

Re: Top speed
My D4D got to 170 on the racetrack but ran out of road to go any faster. I think it was struggling to go any faster anyway. With the ARB bar, the front wheels are very exposed and you're pushing a fair bit of wind due to that.Dave

My Cobra shifts from 3rd to 4th at 200 on the way to 250!Originally posted by graphite bulletanyone been been over 200kph???? ?? ?? ? ?Originally posted by pradogxlv6Petrol V6 120 - 194kph, straight off my SGII
I'm thinking the prado shape is not really capable of achieving that.
I once towed my wife's Datsun Sunny at 160km/hr. It's top speed was 150 under it's own steam so when it broke down one day, and the brother-in-law got behind the wheel, I used my V8 Cortina to pull it to 160 (briefly) just to prove to her that her car could do the ton with some help!
Totally irresponsible I know, don't try this at home!Dave

Re: Top speed
Doesn't technology progress quickly.
I used to have an old diesel Rodeo, 135kph was all it had.
I've heard the new Hilux's do around 170kph.
I also have it on good authority that the new diesel NT Pajero's can do 200kph if given the opportunity to wind out.

Re: Top speed
I live on a big property
The 120 & 150 prado is not very good at high speed corners - way to much body roll, This was done in the good old american fashion of straight line runs !!
Speed was recorded on a DGPS and a time/ground distance calc was applied as control. The vehicle speedo ran a ~5% error and hence not used. Each timed run was recorded four times, twice up-twice back.
The speed timed area was at the end of a 4 km run up. Acceleration was flat to the floor through all gears. The V6 peaked earlier than expected (limiter) and the D4D felt as if it still had a little more to give (didn't hit the rev limiter which electronically interupts fuel supply i believe).
All vehicles were 2009 std spec'd gxl models, with bullbar, winch, dual batteries, towbar, driving lights.
The V6 easily won a D4D drag.
At best, fuel consumption of V6 and D4D was more than 2.5 times the stated hwy consumption.
The std vehicles became unstable above 160km/h with slight side winds producing hard to control drifts of up to + - 2 m, over 300m. This probably could be fixed with harder suspension.
D4D A5 (odo. 30K)
top speed: 188 km/h
top speed with AC on: 179 km/h
D4D M6 (odo. 67K)
top speed: 196 km/h
top speed with AC on: 185
V6 A5 (odo. 14K)
 speed limiter cut in at 188km/h
top speed: 192 km/h - since this I've had it at 198 for a couple of seconds after confusing the electronics
top speed with AC on: 178 km/h
Someone claims they have the V6 m6 breaking the 200km/hr but we no longer run any V6.
Highway to hell was playing during the D4D M6 run which would explain the couple of extra kms
Anyone want to lend me a V6 manual ??
A V6 can hold and does much better 4 wheel drifts in claypans
If you try this on a public road you're a bloody idiot !!
At 53m/sec it takes avg John DOH :
- almost 100m to 'react to brake'
- over 150m of braking distance (ABS equiped, 100% braking pressure, ABS overloads)
- combined braking total of 250-300m minimum on a high grip bitumen surface in good weather conditions
The prado doppler effect does sound unique !"Ooops I just deleted the internet, lucky I was able to recover 99.7% of it out of the bin"
