  • Moving South: Darwin to Canberra

Tomorrow the removalists arrive to start packing our house for our move from Darwin to Canberra.

The house is in a bit of a mess with boxes all around, and other items being quarantined for our trip. We're planning on driving out from Darwin early Thursday morning, heading due South on the Stuart Highway. We'll see how far we get each day and then just pull over and set up our camper trailer at the nearest suitable stop. Our plan is to get to Wilmington, SA, as soon as we can, so we can spend time with the wife's parents before continuing our trip to Canberra.

So for all those keen PP sticker spotters that might be somewhere along the Stuart Highway over the next week, you are now on notice!

Will post some pics of the journey as we can.

After a lifetime of living in the Northern Territory... this is a big move and change of lifestyle for my family. But we're looking forward to the change and new opportunities our move will create for us. 8)

Hope it all goes well for you.

We moved west about 5 years ago it was a big change but it has now opened up opportunities for the future.
We also done a lot of stuff we wouldn't of done if we had stayed where we were and seen a lot of this great country.
Not forgetting the chance to play with the WA pradopointers every now and then.

You'll need to buy a few new clothing items such as gloves and jumpers

Enjoy the trip down and we'll catch up soon.

Re: Moving South: Darwin to Canberra

You have defintely picked a great time to move, talk about sink or swim. Moving to Canberra a the start of winter from Darwin you will feel the cold hope your new house has central heating.
We moved from Canberra to Alice nearly 2 years ago and still can't get over having BBQ's and being outside at this time of year.

Re: Moving South: Darwin to Canberra

Goodluck for you and the family Prycie, sorry to see you move. I hope its a safe trip.

At least you will have the Brindabella, Kosciuszko and Namadgi NPs at your door step. It should be close to snowing up there by now.

If you get a long weekend off try heading out to Deua NP and camping at Bendethera Valley, one of my personel favourites.

The snowfields are only a couple hours away as well, be sure to send us plenty of pics to make me home sick.

                  All the best,

                  Zook.

Not the best time of year to relocate from Darwin to Canberra. You WILL notice the temperature change and WILL suffer I'm sorry to say.

However, Welcome to the oasis within the badlands (i.e. ACT in NSW) :P Sorry, dislocated QLDer here ha ha.

Hi Ntpryce, best of luck with the big move. From Wilmington will you be travelling through the riverland? if so what UHF channel do you use? Sometimes my boss gives me a Mercedes (2636 semi tipper) and tells me to drive around all day, i'll give you a call if i see you.

                      Cheers Andrew

                        Cheers guys.

Well, the house is all packed away now and in containers. They tell me it'll travel by train just about all the way to Canberra, if not all the way.

The family will have a day's rest/preparation tomorrow before an early start on Thursday heading due South.

Last day in Darwin tomorrow. It will be very strange to be driving out for the 'last time'. :|

BIG move ntpryce..... Canberra is a great spot, good for the kids too. I started my career there in the 70's...... often wish I had stayed put.
                          Drive carefully, enjoy the trip,

So it appears we wont be having a beer in Broome in the next month or so - (as you have all ready mentioned) my plan was to have relocated over east by now , but looks like I can still get to Broome in the WARM weather . Travel safe and hope you settle in ok .
