Terrible crash in the NT involving a Prado in what appears to be another single vehicle rollover.

^+1 That car looks like it's had a flogging, but everything is still there- In the way that the roof is still roughly where it should be and it looks like all the doors aren't totally munted (can't see the other side, but it doesn't look too bad). Mind you, I don't know how anyone could drive one of those damn things with the seatbelt buzzer going off- Mine drives me nuts. As others have said, if no-one was wearing seatbelts and there was luggage scattered throughout the car it's pretty easy to see how thing could turn pear shaped real fast.

They were talking about possible amputations of damaged limbs on the news. There must have been some serious aerobatics going on inside during the rollover to get a number of people that beaten up!

I suspect not wearing seatbelts was a contributing factor. I've been to plenty of crashes. The forces involved in a rollover are extreme. Remember the equipment at children's playgrounds where you try and hang on while someone spins you around. In a rollover, the forces are like this x100. If you a part of your body squeezes out between the cabin and the exterior while the car is rolling, it will get severed or crushed. Either way - amputation is likely if you survive.

I was behind a clown who rolled an old CL Valiant wagon, no seatbelt with his arm out the window, degloved from shoulder to elbow down to the bone (dunno how it missed damaging the artery). Fortunately he was so drunk he actually survived the two plus hour ambulance wait and trip back to the nearest hospital as shock of the injury might have killed a sober man. It took two t-shirts to fill the void and staunch the blood flow.
