  • 4wd custom guide

Great Mag..... really interesting reading.......... if you are heading in that direction........it is contagious.

Me..... been there, spent a fortune, busted lots of gear...... at my age more interested in touring.

Although I subscribe to 4WD Action, I find the articles in Overlander more informative.

    Each to their own

                Re: 4wd custom guide

I get 4WD Action, Overlander and 4x4 Australia for free. Action inspires the most want to spend - no doubt the overload of ads. The Articles are getting a bit repetitive and lack some level of porfessionalism. Many of the viewpoints are also pretty cliched and dated.

Overlander I find to be too involved in Tuaregs, Landies (of all descriptions), Cayennes, Volvos and other 4WD/AWD and 'general stuff' that actually never sees a bush track or a desert stretch.

4x4 Australia gives me the best read and the journalism seems to be for adults. Despite its skinny spine, when compared to Action, I'd hazard a guess it'll actually have a higher journalistic word count. If this is the case it would also seal the argument for quality over quantity. Sure, they also have a bit of a Landy-fetish, but life isn't perfect...

                  Re: 4wd custom guide

I 'semi' regularly buy 4WD Action, basically if the cover inspires me or if I am heading away for a few days which will give me a chance to read it. I reckon buying it in the newsagent is also pretty good value, cos often I get the latest mag, as well as an old issue I don't have, plus the DVD.

But I have noticed lately that the same ol stories are starting to creep in - the same reviews - to the same places - on the same vehicles - and the same DIY solutions.

It has put me off somewhat, but I still buy it cos I can't find anything better value, and I do enjoy the DVD's.
