My job has it's ups and downs...

Last week I was paid to drive around Stockton beach taking photo's... this week it's a kids fashion catalogue in a dirty mechanics workshop...

I must say though, a bad day at work is still pretty good

I am an electrician on a Longwall in an Underground Coal Mine in Central QLD. Basically I am responsible for the maintenance of the Longwall and other panel equipment. Occasionally I delve into the automation side. Daily I play with voltage from 11kV to 12Vdc. Many control systems and processes to get amongst. Gotta keep your wits about you at times. Especially whenthe roof wants to come in around you!!!

Re: What does your job involve??

I am a Registered Nurse and left the hospital system 4 and a half years ago, and moved into nursing in the prisons. In every prison, in NSW at least, there is a medical centre staffed by nurses. It has been varied and very interesting work, and although it took me a good 6 months to settle in, I have never been sorry for leaving the hospital.
Recently, I moved into the Adult Drug Court of NSW, which is fantastic and I think I will be there until I retire in about 30 years!! It's basically a conditional liberty program for drug addicts wanting to come off drugs. So the nurses role here is drug and alcohol assessments (to ensure they are dependent before coming on to program), support, interpretation of drug urine tests, ensuring their health and well being and anything else medical. I believe very strongly in this program and we have a success rate of around 43 - 47%, which is great . Here is the link, if anyone is interested http://www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/Lawlink/d ... _aboutus#4

I'm a mobile spray painter, mainly servicing used car yards, but also new car pre-delivery departments and the private sector.
it's my job to fix all those annoying chips and scratches you see on used vehicles. we also spray damaged area's if there not to large, general rule of thumb is that we paint all the plastic components.
We will paint guards ect as long as its only a very small repair, We have to be EPA compliant! If only the EPA knew what it wanted I'd be right!!! I'm self employed and at the mercy of used car salesman!! Most are pretty good guys, you can spot the turds a mile off! Been doing this for 10 years and need a change. Been offered a pretty cruisy gig in the mines, but I'm seriously considering Joining the Fire Brigade.

Re: What does your job involve??

Well I'm currently a Materials Controller (or the fat controller!) for a company on Barrow Island for Gorgon Gas Project. We are trying to build a reverse osmosis plant so we can drink and shower. However with a current lead time of about 3.5 months to get a container on site (it has to go through quarantine and a host of other hurdles) it has been anything but easy (longest time to get 1 container on site is 8 months).

Daily routine is to start at 5:15am for our morning meeting and then we have a pre-start with the crew at 6:30am. From there I'll run around the job like a crazy chook chasing the site transport operations to make sure that what little of our gear has arrived is sent to the right area. Have rather freindly and warm discussions  with the client about our wants and needs for plant, equipment and materials. Then I might launch myself into a heap of reports that have to be generated for our company and the client on a daily basis. Try and track gear that has been lost within the clients system and tell them where it is with the spies that I have available.

Generally finish up around 5:30pm but can go till about 7pm when there are lots of container movements on the Island.

Try and get a game or 3 badmitton in as well just for laughs.

Do this every day for 26 days minimum and then get 9 day off for good behaviour.
                              Regards,

                              Big Fella
