  • Re: What do you do for a living?

I'm in IT and mainly work as a Project/Program Director. Basically I've been in IT for over 30 years and these days coordinate big projects with multiple phases.

I've worked for a number of Government and international companies in this field, have worked in most states of Australia as well as big stints in the UK, and US (lived on east and west coasts). Have been on assignment in Canada, Ireland, Italy, Belgium, India, KL, NZ, Thailand, PNG, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan.

These days I'm happy to be back in Australia, the work is mainly contract in this field so there is the usual boom & bust cycles, current assignment is with a large government entity coordinating a large integrated system, the technology for this project is challenging but well able to be done, just sick of the petty politics.

Labourer for 3 years slaving my way through uni after finishing school, now I work as a Marine Scientist. My role is basically a grad who does 90% field work which is fine by me, means I get to have all the fun diving and travelling every week. Plus most importantly it funds my Prado addiction

Chef by trade, cooking airline food at the moment for qantas and jetstar a real boring and dead end job but hey it pays the bills while we travel, and it has proper hours including weekends and nights off which I haven't had for the past 17 years. That job has it's days numbered hopefully start new job in WA in a couple of weeks in the mines which I am looking forward to, so then we will move over to WA somewhere and continue our travels. Good qualification to have when you are doing a slow lap around OZ no matter where you are every town we have stopped at has needed a chef or to my wife is also a qualified chef aswell as retail working with racehorses and farming

Done a few things over the years. I spent a few years as a Police Officer early in my career before taking up my trade as an electrician. These days I drive freight trains for a living. These can be interesting to drive at lengths up to 1800m and several thousand tonnes. I've been doing this now for several years and don't intend to change careers again. Once I can convince my wife to head over to the west I'll look at doing FIFO on the iron ore trains in the Pilbara or up to North Queensland, anything to get out of Sydney.

Kev is a forklift / crane man. He currently works for one of the biggest glass companies in the state as a crane operator. He has just expanded on his skills by getting his HR licence. And next he is going to get his open ended crane ticket, so he can drive the real big ones.

i am sort of in my original field. I did a Double bachelor of Information Communications Technology & Commerce at The Univerty of Notre Dame here in Fremantle i have mostly worked in the IT fields up until last january when i was let go from my former employer - economic down turn. So now i run my own business, in virtual assistant's - basicly it's temp work from my own office. In any or all of my qualified fields, i would like to expand my business in the next 12 months where i'm recruting other people to work from their home office doing temp work for my company. I also work part-time for a marketing company in Canberra, as a PA to the Manning Director and Project Manager. i would like to go back to uni and do law to expand on my fields.

                            thanks all jas
