    Re: Gangsters & Dolls Wedding

Lets face it, your wedding day is probably the one day in your life that is all about yourselves.......... no thats not true, its all about the bride  and us fellas are allowed to come along to just so long as we don't steal to much limelight from the bride. Anyway you were obviously happy with your plans for the day and the way the day went, so it was the right thing for you guys. If it wasn't the right thing for those complaining, well tough luck, nobody said life was meant to be fair. I think that even if they are dissapointed they should keep that to themselves and just be happy for you guys, if they cant be happy for you then it was probably best they werent there.

    Cheers Andrew

      Re: Gangsters & Dolls Wedding

If they disliked you so much to deliberatly make plans for other things,
did you really want them at your wedding anyway? It is you (and wife's) special day, and you want those closest to you with you.
If they didnt want to be around, then thats their choice, and they have to live with the consequences.

Having been married not more than 7 weeks ago, I know the stress of invites etc too - let alone a surprise one!

        What a pack of a**holes...

Well done to you and your new bride mate. Looks like you two had a top day and thats all that counts!

          Matty & Loz,
          Firstly, Congratulations and enjoy life!

Neither of you don't have anything to be sorry for.
If after 6 years together people don't accept you as the one who your lovely wife loves, perhaps it was better they didn't make it.

As has been said a Wedding is about the Bride but a marraige is about the two of you and your own family (the little gangster especially 8))
You will have special memories of the day spent with friends who care for both of you and thats what counts at the end of the day.

Have fun now and keep smiling

              Re: Gangsters & Dolls Wedding

              Matty and Loz,

Your decision was a good one... on your wedding day you want your loved ones and close friends. And then there is the rest of your family. Family is family and that's something all of us deal with, but your wedding day is yours and I still remember mine like it was yesterday. Rest assured your wife's memory of your happy day it will always be 10x stronger than yours. You made it a great one and that is what will be remembered! Down the track... family shmamily.. Your job from now on is not to be happy but to make your wife happy. And if she's happy, you will be too.

Many of us have issues with in-laws, and you chose to deal with it in the way you had to - that's fine. The important thing is to now let them in if they are willing, or to not close the gate if if will still take them some time.

Life's good - surround yourselves with happy people and you can't go wrong.

Even if one day you don't think you're happy - take a few moments to do something to make your loved ones happy and you will be again in no time.

You're married. Keep her happy and you'll be double happy. Guaranteed.

              Cheers, and congratulations, ld

Also a bit late, but better than never  What an awesome wedding idea! Congratulations. Just thought I'd ask a few questions (which should have an obvious answer) in regards to your dilemma:

                      1. Is the wedding is for you, your wife and son or for those who wont even show up to your birthday after arranging a royalty-like accommodation for them.
                      2. Would your wedding have been any more enjoyable or satisfying with these select people surrounding your new family?
                      3. If they dislike you and were not willing to attend your birthday, why would they want to attend your wedding? Okay maybe for your wife, but if they did, what garbage would they be saying behind your backs?
                      4. Are these select people opportunists? Are they using this as an excuse to take a stab at you? Ask yourself, would you expect a loving and supportive relative to react this way?
                      5. Would they dislike you any less if you had invited them?

I don't know what kind of relationship dynamic you have with these select people, but like what many other PPers are saying, I reckon the actions you took are completely justified. Screw the haters and negativity, you are better off without them. The most important thing is that your family (and prado  ) have a smooth and happy life.

Thanks for the congrats fellas, much appreciated! We're more or less settled into the idea of being married now,but took a number of weeks...

Didn't even think to check to see if it was online Ozpat, thanks for the link, being away for work i actually had no idea what the article said, just got an email from Lori with a photo of the pic from the paper attached...

LIFE DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!!! Happy family, good friends (both at home and on here), and definitely no wowsers or party-poopers...

                          Thanks again everyone!!!

Since when did Oprah join as a moderator and let this Agony Aunt stuff through?
Let's leave this stuff for New Idea where only one side of the story is told.
Since none of us know the FULL story, we should restrict ourselves to just congratulating (or comiserating) the people involved.
