The thing that I hate is no matter how much you try and make the Prado look tuff it never looks that tuff. When you raise an 80 series and put some good rubber on them they look tuff but not the Prado.Any way that is all that I don't like about my Prado.

I own a 98 GXL auto V6 and actually don't have anything negative to say about it apart from the fact (and it's the only thing I can come up with) that the wheel track is perhaps a little narrow which makes me nervous on sidewards cambered paths. It felt like it was going to tip at times and that gets the heart pumping. But it always feels worse inside the cabin than it actually is I suppose. I've got some mates with Patrol's and I've envied their track width at times I tell ya. But that's the common territory for a mid sized 4wd I suppose. But other than that I'm wrapped with it. I originally went for the 95 series because I knew I was going to put scratches on it, I knew I was going to rack up k's on it and I knew I was going to be taking it places that wouldn't be too kind to it. I did a lot of thorough research on all the 4wd's of a similar age/price range prior to buying and the late 90's Prado won hands down for me. The Landcruiser and Patrol would've been a bit too big for me 99% of the time when driving it to work/friend's houses/shops, etc. Early on in the search I lent attention towards a 2000/01 model Pajero but woke up to myself luckily. I also personally don't care too much about a full array of extra switches, traction aids and a plethora of sensors. I like to keep it simple as there's less that can go wrong with it when off the beaten track I suppose. I've had my car for nearly 4 years and it's mechanically A1 & serviced by me where possible. I plan on keeping it for probably another decade and will then maybe buy a pre-loved 150 series, or a 200 series Cruiser (depends on cost of living and fuel prices by then, but it will definitely be another Toyota as I'm a very happy customer). The motor's done 240,000 and when it craps itself after half a million or so, I'll just get the motor rec-conned/buy another engine. It's relatively easy to work on and ticks all the boxes for me.
Brett.
